Hello 'hiders:

I've read the FAQ's and several threads, but also know that things in the market change quickly and you guys breathe this stuff. This is my first post here, so hopefully I will explain my needs correctly.

I'm looking for a good mid-range scope for 300-1000 yard target shooting, and prefer variable power up to 16x if possible. I will be using this scope for stationary targets on a 20" match AR-15 or Remington 700 in .308 cal. I use mil's to measure range and hold windage, so sharp reticle clarity and precision 1/10 mil turret accuracy are both important to me. My project budget is $500, but would prefer saving money if it meant sacrificing a hypothetical 10 for a 9.

My wish list:
*up to 16+ variable power
*30mm+ tube
*1/10 milliradian turret adjustments
*mil-dot reticle

All suggestions are appreciated!

Given your budget and what your looking for in a scope, I would say your options are:

Millett

Weaver

Bushnell

Falcon

I'm sure I've forgotten a couple other manufacturers but i am tired and on pain killers, so someone else will chime in i'm sure. Get the scope that best fits you and your budget and you will be happy. There are a ton on the market anymore.

I have the bushnell 10x mil/mil and the weaver 3.5-10 mil/mil
I like both of them . if you dont need the low power get the bushnell 3200 .
im not familiar with Falcon but
10.00 is to much to pay for a BSA or Millett

I hate it when someone makes a suggestion outside of budget constraints, but you really should at least consider the Weaver 3-15 EMDR. $750 street price and if you use the Midway codes here, $700. A huge step up from anything in the under-$500 class, but only you can know if it's the value you're looking for.

Good luck in your search.

The weaver grand slams aren't bad. The weaver tactical line is a great scope for the money but out of your specified price range. I wouldn't recommend BSA. I personally haven't had problems with millet scopes and would recommend a trs-1. I have sold quite a bit up here too and haven't had one returned yet. In my opinion they are one of the best for the price in your price range and leave you with enough left over to buy more ammo or reloading supplies to shoot. Out of all the choices my top three would be

Millet TRS-1

Bushnell 3200 elite

Weaver grand slam

If you want/can spend a bit more the weaver tactical 3-15 would be my recommendation. Alot of scope for the money

+1 to what John said. The scope offer a vase amount of scope for only 750.00. I would just hold off for another 250 and get the Weaver you cant go wrong with that.

Re: 1/10 MOA mid-range MIL-dot scope shopping

Done! Ordered the Bushnell ET6245F Elite 6-24x 50mm 1/10 MIL First Focal Illuminated Mil-Dot Reticle for $789 shipped. That seemed like an incredible deal on a great scope, and a few sellers here at SH are selling the scope for $849-900 shipped.

Now I need rings. If someone has recommendations for a good set of single-piece rings, I'm thankful!

Re: 1/10 MOA mid-range MIL-dot scope shopping

From the shopping around I did it came down to the Weaver or the Viper PST, however the wait for FFP PSTs was a little too much for me so I got the Weaver. I prefer the reticle in the Vortex but the Weaver does have mil-donuts with half-mil hash marks so it's still better than a regular mil-dot. If you're using this for ranging I'd definitely consider getting something with more gradations than a regular mil-dot.

*edit - missed you by 27 seconds :p Congratulations, I don't think you can go wrong with that Bushnell.

Scott @ Libety Optics for Seekins. He had quite a few in stock last I talked to him.
