Rifle Scopes $1000 scope to shoot 1000 yards need help

It looks like price on the 5-30x56 RD MRAD went up. I don't know if that's from Meopta or just depends store to store... Sportoptics still has them listed for $899 and (as of yesterday at least) offered 15% off with the code EURO15. They don't have stock though...

Hard to beat the Bushnell Elite series at Cameraland's prices. I got a 3-12x44 with G3 reticle for my 6.5x55 hunting rifle a few months ago and love it. No trouble shooting steel out to 1400 yards. The 3.5-21 is a little heavier and a little bigger but still well under $1000

I recently bought 2 scopes, within the last 30 days, an athlon Midas tac 5x25x56 and a leupold mk5hd 5x25x56

I am astounded but the Midas is as clear and sharp as the mk5. It's half the price. About 800 ish.

Very easy zero stop, very crisp clicks and they line up with the marking. They track PERFECTLY.

Crazy good scope for the money. I am going to replace most of my scopes with these I think.

That's pretty high praise. Very good to hear.

I am going to look at a DRM2 and the Athlon ETR.

Hard to beat the bushnell for value, solid scope with a nice reticle to, though I prefer the reticle in the athlon with the .2 wind holds. Also my best score in a long range match was shot at 10-12x on a hot day with lots of mirage, you don't have to have high magnification.

Please don't beat me up to bad I have never posted anything like this before just wanted to share what I thought...If my terminology or what I am saying is off I will delete it and type up something better.....I am using A Meopta Optika6 5-30 MRAD and loving it....I have to be honest I've never used a FFP scope with this type of reticle but have used NF BR's, Lupy fixed 40's, March and Sightron...all fine crosshair stuff......I shoot with a gentleman that owns a PRS range he really likes the layout of the Optika6 MRAD reticle commented its simple easy to read and great for beginner through veteran....I guess I'm biased to it because I have never used anything else.....Took me 1000 rounds or more and I am still trying to learn holdovers and wind calls using the reticle....I looked through a GENII Razor at yesterdays Match and Ill admit the clarity difference was there....the Razor made the colors pop the edges of trees and targets just stood out a little better....I got behind a couple older S&B PMII image looked slightly brighter than the Optika6 but the reticle was too busy for me as a beginner.....Gen II viper was really close call....Older Viper was most def not as clear.....I only had about 15 seconds behind each one so I had no real time to mess with anything other than parallax and wasn't about to start spinning turrets at a match get my head kicked through the uprights.....I am slowly learning "perfect" image quality is a big deal but will it repeat....return to zero...hold zero....I hope I'm saying that right...My rifle fell off the tailgate and still held zero....maybe I got lucky and it landed on its feet.....The bell has dents from a pipe fence I beat the hell out of this thing....Something to consider also is resale value....I am pretty sure I wont be able to get 500.00 if I sell this thing and not quite sure about warranty work either so those are things to take into consideration I believe.....I took 2nd place yesterday at the first match I have ever attended I am pretty damn sure there was A LOT of luck involved and I shoot the range weekly... I had bubble guts I was so nervous.....I'm running a 50 year old factory Remington 700 …..Criterion 6 Dasher Prefit…..15.00 Ebay muzzle brake.....scope rings of unknown maker.....its really ugly....I think the easy layout of the reticle helped....This is probably the worst scope advice anyone has given buy my .02 cents.....Very Respectfully Submitted

I think the Meopta Optika 6 5-30x56 is slightly better.
PST II 5-25x50 = 24.1/4.8 @ 100yds
OPTIKA6 5-30x56 = 24.6/3.7 @100yds
MPO 5-25x56. = 21.9/4.35 @100yds

Since top end magnification is different I'm only considering the bottom end. Not sure if that value is linear through the range.... If it is then the PST is a little better at 25x. But you are talking like 3 inches more

Is the glass in the Optika6 better than the PST 2?

That comparison was purely based off of manufactures published specs. I have only looked through a 3-18x56 Optika 6 for just a second. It was very nice and I would say yes it is better than the PST 2 I have gotten to look through. But I'm not the person to give you an accurate report on that....

i skipped to the end and maybe the OP already bought something. but if not, look for a used vortex razor gen2 3-18 or 4.5-27 here in the classifieds. couple hundred bucks over your $1k but awesome glass that you will never outgrow and you can move it to a nicer rig if you get one in the future.

Under a $1000 budget, and you don't have a military affiliation to get a discount, I'd probably get a Nightforce SHV, or the Meopta. I have a Meopta ZD 6-24 and it is a Rockstar.

If you have a military affiliation, I'd buy a Leupold Mark 6 5-25 and stretch a bit.

If not, I'd recommend the 6-24 Meopta ZD, if you can find one in mil/mil or moa/moa variants. I have one of the transexual ones and while I am happy with it, that factor is a pain in the ass when I want to use the reticle.

At the $1000 dollar price point, I'd steer clear of Leupold and Vortex. Another $500-1000 and they are up there with anything but the Alphas (Swarovski, high end Minox, Schmidt Bender, Zeiss, Hendsolt).

I've owned or shot with most of the scopes in this thread (but not all).

I'd still take an SWFA HD 5-20 over all of them, by far. Reliable, good glass, extremely rugged. That's all you need for your first scope over 3-9x40. Last thing I'd personally want is a Chinese scope that I paid a grand for. I've never liked the Bushnell glass personally, so that would be out, and I'm not a huge fan of their reticles either. But they do have a good following.

SWFA regularly show up for around $850 used or $1000 new on sale.

There is a good deal in the PX on an LRHS 4.5-18.

I have used these and the 3-12 and they have worked well.

Lots of good options.

Look at the afore mentioned blogs from Ilya and Jim.
Loads of info. At least make your head spin a bit.....?
