Springfield, MO.
Hey Southwest Missouri folks,

I will be moving to the Springfield area in close to three months if all goes well. I'm wondering where to find any long range rifle ranges out in that neck of the woods.

It would also be cool to see who all is from the area.

Re: 1000 yd ranges around Springfield, Mo.

I live in a suburb of Springfield, and I have been looking for the same. I have come across a couple of options within an hour or so drive time.

The Big Piney Sportsman's Club has long range shooting. I am in the process of filling out my application to join for December. I haven't been there yet, so maybe there are some members here who can post more info. http://www.bigpineysportsmansclub.com/index.html

There is also a 1000 yd. benchrest range in the same area, but I can't get them to respond to emails.

There are a couple of 100 yard ranges near Springfield. I grew up in this area, but I just moved back here from Phoenix, AZ a year ago.

Folks I don't live in the area any longer but was stationed at Ft Leonard Wood for years, there used to be Service rifle matches at the KD range next to range control I know its 600yd for sure I think it may be 1000 but I cant remember any more and don't have my log books from back then to look at.

I'd check with FLW range control to see if there is anything still going on there. From Spfld its about an hr to hr and a half drive.

I'm a member at Big Piney, our range goes to 800 yards.

The 1000/600 yard benchrest range is Midwest Benchrest between the Yukon and Tryron areas off hiway 137. Range is on private property and as far as I know he holds official International Benchrest Matches that you get your "Card" punched and I guess ranked among the benchrest community. I been out there once at the very first shoot and there was shooters from all over the states there just to shoot. Not Sure about West Plain's range...

There is a school down that way that teaches tactical shooting skills, can't remember the name of the operation but seen thier booth at some of the local gun shows around here. I think that may be the range they operate from you mentioned. About 2 hours drive to Houston or West Plains from Springfield more or less.

Black Ops School of Combat IIRC, I've never been to any of his classes or range though. I'm about 30 miles south of West Plain. He may be set up at the Springfield Gunshow the 19-20 of March though, might be able to get some info then. I believe he has a website too.

Sorry for being Late in answering you, kinda forgot about this thread. I have not moved yet, but will be very soon. All the holes in the swiss cheese are lining up and we should be down there by The end of August.

Hey, I live just south of Springfield, and I am also looking for something longer than 100 yards. Busiek State Park just south of Ozark has 25, 50, and 100 yard ranges, and Andy Dalton , just north of Springfield, has the same (along with some archery and shotgun, trap/skeet). I only have a .223, so I am looking for a 500-600 yard range. I haven't heard anything about the range in West Plains, I'll have to keep my ears open. Here is the site for the benchrest club out of Springfield, but it says there is a 2 year wait list at the moment. Let us know when you move down here, we will have to get together for some good ol BBQ and shooting!
