Hey all. This may get some what lengthy, but here it goes. I want a long range precision rifle. I'm nearly 100% sold on a .260 REM for caliber choice, and I would like a model 70 action for this rifle. I have searched Google, gunbroker, auctionarms, and gunsamerica and cannot find just the action. Can anybody recommend somewhere else to try.
This problem could be resolved if fn offered their SPR in .260, because that is the exact stock I would like. But I guess that's just wishful thinking. Ha ha ha.
Again, Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You all very much.

I'm in the same boat. I want to make a 260 on a Win M-70 action.

Can't find the actions like you use to ( in the 80s I paid $235 for Six M-70 actions, but no more).

I've been searching the gun stores and pawn shops for beater rifles. Found a couple in the $350 range, and it looks like I'm gonna have to go that route.

People say go to savage or remington, SCREW THAT. If I wanted a Sav or Rem I'd buy one, I don't, I like Model 70s and I'll hang on until I get one.

Shop your local pawn shops for the older Win 70's.

I was at the Tulsa Gun Show a couple weekends ago and I seen several Win 70's from $325 all the way up to around a couple grand. If the Win 70 is what you want then go that way. Don't go for the R700 or Savage, you are just not going to be happy. Personally, I like the Win 70. Would love to build a M70 like Texas Brigade armory has. Give me some time and I will. LOL

Tulsa has their biggest of gun shows coming up in late fall, i think. This would be a great place to look. I have heard that it is so big, a person can't see it all in one weekend.

Your best bet is to search the pawn shops and local gun stores to find a used rifle for cheap with the action you want and just scrap the barrel on it.

Re: 1000 yd Winchester Model 70. please help.

260 or 7-08 on Win 70 / FN SPR action, you'll like it!

I've got my 260 and working on 7-08.

Keep your eyes open, you'll find an action/donor rifle. Nothing wrong with a Win 70 donor rifle that was formerly a 270 or 30-06, actually there might be some advantages for building a 260.

Re: 1000 yd Winchester Model 70. please help.

I understand you, I prefer win m70 actions to any of the others. I have two right now. They are more expensive to build, but the guys are out there that will do it.

I kick myself because 2 months ago, there were a dozen or so barreled actions on gunbroker and I should have picked another one up. This week there is squat out there.

Good luck, stay patient and get what you want. I know from experience that compromises are not the way to go, you will regret it in the end.

Re: 1000 yd Winchester Model 70. please help.

The last of the bare M70/FN-SPR actions were sold by CDNN, when the closed the Conn plant. If you like how the SPR is setup, they come up forsale occasionally and can easily be rebarreled to .260Rem.

M70/FN-SPR actions are my favorite.

i must say this prodigal, you go with the m70 and i am going with the TVP custom. you want to spend the cash i figured what the hell i will follow suit hahaha.

Re: 1000 yd Winchester Model 70. please help.

I have an FN SPR action with a 24 inch benchmark barrel that shoots light out to 1250yds, find a used one and rebarrel or go any other type of actions, savage, remy, stiller, surgeon etc
the 260 is a great cal that deserve a good barrel and action.

Re: 1000 yd Winchester Model 70. please help.

Thanks all for not getting discouraged and yelling at me for wanting an m70 action. I'm pretty sure my plan now is to pick up an FN SPR, and just swap out barrels when I feel like it. You all have been great. I'll be back with more questions soon.

Re: 1000 yd Winchester Model 70. please help.

Just be careful with some of the older m70 actions. My 243 is a long action, with the short action cartridge. Made ordering a stock interesting until I noticed that....

Re: 1000 yd Winchester Model 70. please help.

If yo desire a controlled round feed Winny, then go to www.gunbroker.com and buy a M70 ultimate shadow rifle in 243. You can get one new for around $550 every now and then. The new 70 actions are very smooth and triggers are good and can be made much better with a simple trigger spring change.

Re: 1000 yd Winchester Model 70. please help.

I love a M70, it was my very first rifle I bought myself and I will never part with it. I have surgeons, rem customs, stock rems, bat, kelby....... Nothing feels as tough and durable as my M70. Even the surgeon has let me down so don't let anyone tell you its not as good. (not bashing surgeon, they are my fav action for future builds. Very well made product) I'm always looking for CRF M70's. Good luck
