1000 yds + on BLM or National Forest Montana

Pretty sure the shooting range in Great Falls goes out to at least 1k. No idea about public land shooting up there. Might want to call Mitchell Supply. Not a great shop, but last time I talked to him he said he was readying a 50 bmg shoot, so he might know something.

(1) Go to the FWP website here:
(2) Go to the map feature
(3) Go to your desired AO
(4) Look at the map colors showing land ownership, see the legend for the color codes (I have attached it here)

(5) Zoom in on potential spots using the topos on that website and Google Earth sat photos
(6) Pay attention to road access and SDZs - make sure your projected FP, bullet flight path and SDZs are all SUPER SAFE
(7) Print out a topo or two of 3 to 5 potential FPs
(8) Drive to your desired FP
(9) Conduct visual recon of the area, especially 4 wheeler and horse trails. MT isn't as remote as it used to be and there are guys all over the state. This is especially important and true during hunting season. Make 100% sure you are on the correct land.
(10) If you are not 110% sure everything is safe - don't shoot and leave for your next potential spot. Do this for a day or two and you will find some amazing spots.
(11) When you are done shooting, leave it cleaner than you found it. Not shit left, expect a few hundred grains of Cu and Pb from your fired bullets.

Good luck buddy. Enjoy this great country.
