I'm doing load development for my Gen4 Glock 40 MOS with RMR RM07 Gen2 with 200gr hard cast bullets from Montana Bullet Works... goal is bear loads.

I purchased .401 WFN-GC from them for bear loads and their WFN-PB practice bullet. Both are hard cast.

Had a lengthy conversation with their bullet guy and he said their WFN-GC has killed many bears and he would take it over a BB or Underwood any day. I'm not going to pretend I know what I'm talking about or exactly what he said because I don't remember 100% but he talked about their mixture vs high antimony. Either way, MBW comes highly recommended.

Today was my first day playing with loads. I loaded up 5ea 6.0-7.2gr in 0.2gr increments n350 with the 200gr Montana Bullet Works HC WFN practice bullet they sell. HiTek coated. Sig nickel brass and CCI LP. Stupid accurate at 10yd out of my factory Gen4 Glock 40 MOS with RMR RM07 Gen2. Don't have any speeds but I will tomorrow. They shot soft and the higher charges were probably in the 1025-1100 range.. zero leading issues. Nice and clean

Guy MBW told me to shoot my same load with the 200gr HC practice bullet and the WFN-GC.. he also said dont worry about trying to get them super fast. He said 1100-1150 is fine they will penetrate great at that speed. waiting for some longshot to arrive to load a good 1200fps bear load with those.

I did chrono the underwood 200gr HC round out of my gun and avg was 1200.. they also started leading the last 2" of my barrel

Also have a Bar-Sto match barrel being made for this Glock 40. Once it's ready they are gonna call me to send my pistol in to have the barrel custom fit. Mostly doing this for better case support over factory glock barrel.with hotter bear loads but I'll take the increased accuracy as well.

This thread has my interest as I just received a large frame P80 yesterday and was planning to get a G20 slide and LPK to finally get into this cartridge. Also thinking about getting a threaded G40 length barrel for a little extra speed while retaining the shorter slide of the 20 should I want to put the factory barrel back in.

I have a little over a pound of Blue Dot and was going to start there, but it'll be cool to see what powders others have been using to get good speeds in the 165-200gr range.

I use MBW for a lot of my hard cast needs. Their 160 grain HCGC .358 projectiles shoots insanely well out of my Winchester 1892 in 357 mag. I have them put the hardness around 15 and they really smack the hell out of game animals

Just got back from the range doing pressure testing with my chrono with N350 and w572. Here are the numbers.

N350 numbers are 5 shots each
w572 numbers are 2 shots each

Looks like w572 is going to work out just nicely to mimic Underwood 200gr HC ammo.. I wasnt doing any accuracy testing but 7.2gr was very accurate at 25yd @ 1158 SD 4... 7.5, 7.8 and 8.1 recoil mimic Underwood 200gr HC ammo and velocity. I chrono the Underwood at 1200 across 10 shots... Guys at MBW told me dont go chasing velocity. He said find a load that you can shoot accurately in the 1100-1200 range and go with it and they will penetrate. Dont need to get them to 1200 or higher.

N350 7.4gr was very accurate @ 1159 SD 4.5... Looks like right around that 1160 mark is where accuracy with these bullets is. both powders 1158/1159 SD 4 and 4.5 both very very accurate at 25yd...

Now I will do some rested accuracy testing at 25yd and play with seating depth a little and fine tune these 2 loads..

Im currently testing powders to get the speed/pressure im looking for to get these MBW 200GR WFN-GC to mimic Underwood loads for bear. Ill now start testing accuracy from rested position @ 25yd and play with seating depth a little to get them dialed in.

8.0gr 800X over a 180gr Rainier TMJ is a fantastic target load for my Wilson Combat. Using CCI 350 and Starline brass.

I use 8.7gr of 800X with a 180gr XTP for hunting...but admittedly haven't shot anything yet. I developed it last year, but ended up tagging out in archery season.

Did some 25yd testing today....no ransom rest or anything...just my hand resting on a bag... the 2 top and bottom groups on the far right are the 200gr MBW Hardcast lubed Gas check....the other 4 groups are the 200gr MBW practice bullet..

The MBW 200gr WFN Gas check hardcast were more accurate at 25yd vs the practice bullet.

I have had great success with projectiles from MBW. I use their 160gr HCGC in my 357 mag rifle loads and 38 +p loads for woods carry. I can tell you that from a Win 1892 with a 24" barrel, using Lil Gun, they knock the soul right out of whitetail deer. They make a good product. One side note....if you have never used Longshot before....its Super Loud!. I find it substantially louder than equivalent loads using other powders

Looks like I'm going to settle on 9.1gr of BE-86 for the 1,000 160gr RN powder coated bullets I got from J-Ames to start my 10mm load dev with. Will save the Longshot for 180-220gr bullets whenever I start messing with those.

Also thinking about getting Ron Willams to build me an 8-10" AR upper to ride on the greasegun mag lower I use with a 45ACP upper he built back in 2017. He can mod the GG mags to run 10mm and I have a ton of those already, so I wouldn't miss getting 5-6 modified for 10mm.

I got a few thousand Sierra 180 grain jacketed hollow points sitting here and a bunch of 180 grain round nose that I'll work up a load for my new Dan Wesson Bruin 10 mm. Sitting here waiting for my G40 to come back from Barstow so I can continue loading up the 200 grain hardcast and test with long shot. They did have me send them some of my current 200 grain Hardcastle loads for when they fit the barrel and test shoot it

Finally got out to run larger strings of 160gr powder coated J-Ames bullets over 9.1gr of BE-86. I got data from the OEM G20 barrel as well as a KKM threaded G40 length barrel.

Not sure what was up with the 1162fps round in the G20 barrel string but deleting that put the average a little higher and the ES/SD much tighter.

I just loaded 200 rds of 200 gr HC with 8.2 gr of Longshot, 1190 fps out of my G-20, I did a lot of looking and that seems to be one of the preferred loads, AA-9 is the other powder of choice with the 200gr cast.

I load for a Glock 20 G4 with a Lone Wolf barrel that is the same length as the OEM barrel.
Hornady 180gr XTP's - New Starline Brass - CCI #300 - 13.0 grains of AA#9 = 1150-1200 fps depending on the season, and how heavy, or light handed i was throwing charges.

The OEM barrels velocity seem to be comparable. Perhaps 20fps slower.

I do not shoot pistols well enough to see any consistent differences in accuracy with this bullet/powder combination. I feel like group size is fully dependent on how well i am shooting on that day.

I have yet to run 1 time or multi fired brass by the Lab Radar. I am not sure if that effects velocity or not.

My 4 legged predator loads are always in new brass.

Finally got my 12” DI 10mm upper out to zero the T2 and see if the 160gr load I worked up for my G20/40 would run in the AR. Fortunately, it does. The upper was built by Ron Williams of RMW Xtreme out of Florida. He built me a DI .45 upper a few years ago to go along with a lower that takes STANAG AR mags as well as greasegun mags for .45ACP. Ron modified five of my GG mags to run 10mm and they work like a dream. Ron thought BE-86 might be too fast, and I’ll probably work up some 180s with Longshot eventually, but these ran fine today. On to the chrono data.

Finally got some time to test Longshot in my 10mm's today with MBW 200gr Hardcast bullets


Results were exactly what I was looking for. Very low single digit SD's and ES and velocity in that 1175 - 1250 range. Accuracy was very good as well without concentrating on Accuracy. Was just checking velocity across multiple charges from 7.4gr - 8.2gr.

Tested 5rd of each charge @ 10yd in both my Dan Wesson Bruin 6" 10mm and Glock 40 Gen4 6" 10mm.

I also shot 5rd of Underwood 200gr Hardcast factory ammo for comparison (chrono Results at bottom)

I just loaded up 25rd with the 7.8gr load with the MBW WFN-PB and 25rd 7.8gr with the MBW WFN-GC.

I may load up 10rd of the 8.0gr also which had unbelievable numbers.. 1228 SD 1.5 ES 4 and with very good accuracy also...

Trying to finalize my load to take with me before heading to the AWW by float plane for a week. Never know if a black bear will come sniffing around the campsite. Haha

There is a total of 3k+ of 10mm. Half of the brass is new Starline. I cleaned the used brass and debulged all of the used brass. I resized all of the brass.

Reloading for a Glock 40. I like 220gr. bullets. They can be loaded to1200+fps for bear loads, and they also make a great subsonic bullet loaded down to around 1020fps.

WORD OF WARNING WITH XTREME 220gr. BULLETS: They aren't stable in some barrels! They shoot fine out of the factory barrel, but out of the KKM and Alphawolf barrels I have, I got 1 or 2 out of 10 shots that would be wicked flyers. Like, right off paper bad. Only powder that didn't do this was Lil'gun. These bullets are much shorter than the 220gr. cast bullets, so there is enough room for a decent charge of Lil'gun.

SNS 220gr. FP vs Xtreme 220gr. RNFP

I tend to stick to SNS Cast Bullets 220gr. HI-TEK coated bullets. They're good, inexpensive target bullets, but they aren't particularly hard. Straight Shooters Cast Bullets Co. offers a similar bullet with BHN 20 for actual bear loads.

Favorite powder for this is Longshot. Get to 1200fps. without any pressure signs with 220gr. HI-TEK coated cast bullets.

Found some load data on Xtreme Bullet's site for their 220gr RNFP in 10mm with Titegroup, so I thought I'd give it a try. They only list one charge (no starting or max load) of 3.7gr., so that's what I started with. Except, I used the SNS Cast Bullets 220gr. HI-TEK coated bullets.

Sound wise - suppressed ( including the loads above):
-7.2gr. 3N38 is pretty loud (uncomfortable).
-6.0gr. Longshot & 5.6 Autocomp are noticeably quieter, but louder than all of my 9mm loads.
-4.7 Titegroup is definitely quieter than 6.0 Longshot, like 9mm 147gr. loads with slower burning powders.
-4.3 Titegroup is into 9mm territoty. Not Titegroup 9mm load quiet, but maybe just above a 147gr. bullet with 4.0 Autocomp. Definitely quieter than a 147gr. bullet with 4.5 Longshot.

I just got a XDM Elite 10mm and loaded up some MBW 200gr Hardcast bullets with W572 powder. Starline brass and load col @ 1.245”. Thank you Padom and sharing your results. I found 7.1 to 7.4 is a node. Speed around 1150-1175 with good ES. I will test more for accuracy and see what happens.

I just got a XDM Elite 10mm and loaded up some MBW 200gr Hardcast bullets with W572 powder. Starline brass and load col @ 1.245”. Thank you Padom and sharing your results. I found 7.1 to 7.4 is a node. Speed around 1150-1175 with good ES. I will test more for accuracy and see what happens.

Also, for comparison, Longshot with MBW 200gr HC-PB and Longshot from 7.4 - 8.2gr was on average 10-15fps faster each load in my Dan Wesson Bruin than the G40 Barsto and almost all charges had sub 5 SD's and excellent accuracy. I loaded double of each load and shot half in the G40 and half in the DW Bruin same range session over Garmin...
