Rifle Scopes 10x fixed effective range

10x

I prefer more mag for self spotting or seeing detail.

Sometimes I like more FOV than 10x provides.

Once I had a old SWFA fixed 10x MD with moa adjust, it went down the road asap.

Truthfully I'm rarely on 10x in the variables.

I can't think of any situation where I would want a fixed 10x???

I have a fixed 10x ss on my SAC 308 and run an AMG on my AX. Both rifles do the same thing but each has a purpose

I have variables on every rifle I own that doesn't have an RD on it, every one has a different purpose, but for each task there is a variability involved and the general versatility has been exploited fully at times.

Planning for a upcoming Coyote hunt I took my 1.5-4.5 off and my 6-18 on expecting longer shots. Wouldn't you know it I ended up in reasonably dense juniper and the FOV at 6x was too small for the close shots, I couldn't find the two I opportunities I had in time. Fixed 10x for me would have been worse. Wish I'd had a 3-20 right then.

Shooting groups, or load work up, I use 25x to 40x.

ELR, 10x???

Small game hunting, I'm usually at 4x.

PRS type stuff, 14-16x, even with the 22.

FT air rifle, 24x most of the time but used as low as 12x and as high as 50x.

Benchrest, I've had 10-50's and fixed 45x.

F-class I used that fixed 45x briefly.

10x is no mans land to me.

But to each his own, if you're happy with 10x on a 308 that's great.

I use a red dot (Doctor Optic) or Laser on my 2.5-10X24 instead of dialing down. Just leave it at 10X all the time. Seldom use the dot or laser except for close fast shots on coyotes.

While we all can appreciate the flexibility and versatility that a variable power scope offers, I'm curious if we can (subjectively) quantify practical or "comfortable" min/max ranges of a fixed 10x scope with decent glass. This isn't intended to spark a debate on fixed vs. variable, but is rather an exercise to ask, what niche in terms of effective ranges does a 10x fixed scope fill?

Answers might be nuanced. For example, hunting vs. steel, comfortable ranges vs. stretching it, or differences between the few brands that offer a 10x fixed. Also curious how much range (if any) does an SWFA HD 10x offer over the classic? What about the Schmidt?
I've used 10x on a figure 11 ( soldier silhouette) at 1000 yards with no major problems.
