will the 110grainers get ok results with a 11" twist barrel?

has anyone tried the 110grn?

Re: 110grain V-max for 308win?

I have a 16.5" semi-auto 308 with a 1 in 10" twist and I shoot 110 VMax's out of it. Loaded with Varget(which should be too slow burning for that bullet weight I thought) it'll shoot 1" groups at 100 yards. The only way to know is to try it out, but your 11" twist should be fine.

As far as hunting things larger than coyotes with it, I'm not sure as I haven't tried it YET. I'm gonna give it a go on a neck or headshot this deer season. If you get to it before me, let us know how it works.

I've loaded & shot them in my Rem 700 PSS with the 1/12 twist barrel....they shot great & I've used them to drop about 15 hogs so far the past year...

The 110 v-max's are explosive! and will destroy fox's in spectacular fasion. But if you wish to shoot deer with them then you are limited to head shots or high neck at best.
The sierra 125 prohunter bullet would be better as it will give up nothing to the v-max for frontal smack on the ginger bogbrush, but will hold up structuraly on deer if you have to hit them in the chest.

Re: 110grain V-max for 308win?

I use the TAP 110 vmax ammo for deer hunting every year. They vaporize the insides of a deer. They will also shoot through the shoulder if need be. I have not had one exit a deer yet. I also haven't had a deer move from where I shot them either. I have shot 5 deer with these and will continue to. They also make a great groundhog round. I have tried reloading them a little, but never could get the speed of the loaded rounds. I didn't fuss with it too much either though. No need to reload it when the loaded ammo works so well and a box lasts a season or two.

Re: 110grain V-max for 308win?

I chambered a number of cheap 308 amateur gunsmith projects and took them to the range.
They all seem to do best with 110 gr Vmax.
It could be that I do not manage recoil well.
It could be that I load ammo very concentrically, so the longer bullets get no advantage from being straightened out by the bore.

Re: 110grain V-max for 308win?

Perhaps they are ok for deer at 308 velocity....out of a 300WM at ~3900fps I would not shoot a deer closer than 300yds. I have been itching to shoot a coyote with them, however. VERY explosive.
