What kind of velocity are you getting? I just put together a 21" and 5 shots of factory 140's over the chrono averaged 2730.

Very nice. Could we get the specs on this build. I really like that stock.

Re: 16-18 inch shorty rifles

ddavis, I haven't shot it yet. Just got it yesterday and pieced it together for the picture. I still have to bed it and mill the DBM for the jewell trigger.

ogonzalez13, here are specs:
R700 SA, Krieger 18.5" spiral fluted and threaded for suppressor
Bolt knob is spiral fluted too
Jewell trigger.
DBM is Newman Precision
Stock is the new Game Scout by McMillan (back half A3 front half Rem Classic stock) Color is 75% black and 25% orange
Stock weighs right around 2 pounds.

Thats good to hear, I have a 21" being built right now.

Here's one of mine. Remington 700 .300 Blackout with a Shilen SS 16" heavy varmint barrel with 1:8" twist. Take off LTR stock. Topped with a 20 MOA EGW base and Bushnell 3200 10x Tactical scope.

Donor rifle started out as a SPS Varmint in .17FB. Chose this chambering for it's reliability in extracting and ejecting smaller cases. Everything has worked flawless so far. </div></div> </div></div>

Who does this camo pattern? When you post pictures like that my kids might lose their college fund. Nice rig.

Re: 16-18 inch shorty rifles

Branden Burkhart over at Manners. He's actually doing the camos on his own through www.customguncoatings.com. He's short-bus on here.

His work is phenomenal. The attention to detail on this is the best I have ever seen. The multicam pattern goes up under the adjustable cheek for example and wraps the entire piece so whether its up or down, coverage is seamless in all directions. It is seriously tighter than any of the dips or other paint jobs I've seen.

FYI - I'm banking on all four of my boys getting scholarships...they're SOL otherwise at this point

OK, thats a mild load and explains why I was getting 2640 out of my 18 1/2. I believe I've read that Hornady uses 4350 in thier factory loads. I pulled one and measured the charge and it was 43gns. Their recomended load on the factory boxes is 41.5 gns of 4350.

Re: 16-18 inch shorty rifles

Sweet looking rifles guys. Im probably gonna have my 700 AAC SD re-threaded my question is would there be a noticealbe difference going from 20" to 18-18.5" in velocity drop how much would it affect my dope? What about going down in the 16-17" range aswell. I plan on using the gun out to 1k occasionaly. Mostly gonna use it out to 700-800ish yards in tact comps. Past that I will use my 6.5 for the most part.

Re: 16-18 inch shorty rifles

Since I finally went out and shot the damn thing on Thursday, today I broke out the Aervoe and rattlecan-painted the stick. I may have gone a tick heavy on the OD green blend coat, but for <$1 worth of paint, I can always go back over and add some more brown tones in later.

What kind of speeds are you getting with 142s from that 19" tube?

Re: 16-18 inch shorty rifles

I've been wondering about cutting the barrel, does that damage the accuracy. not from having a shorter barrel but from say cutting the barrel wrong or something like that.
Or is it just best to pay a gun smith the dumb amount of money it will cost to have them do it instead.
But i feel like thats the better choice if you want a muzzle break installed after wards.

Thanks T-dog

I'm really happy with it. It's pretty handy even with the suppressor on. It measures under 21 1/2" from recoil lug to the end of the can.

I am getting 2650 with 43gn 4350. I think I can get a bit more out of it as I have no signs of pressure. I did shoot them out of my 28' barrel 260 and I am getting 2850.

Re: 16-18 inch shorty rifles

I decided I didn't like the 2.0 on here so I changed her up a but. This gun freakin hammers. Here are some 5 shot groups with loads for my other 260. I think this thing will be printing some sick 5 shot groups once I get everything settled down. I should have it coated by next weekend. Here are some group pics. The Small squares ar 1/2 in and the big ones are 1". The load is 43gn H4350 with sierra 140gn MK Nosler Brass Federal BR primer seated on lands. I think with a jump this thing will be unreal.
BTW this is before the barrel channel was oppened up so I will get some more pics when I can get to it. It is all done and bedded in stock just needs coating. What color?
