Hi all,

So I bought some barnes tsx 168s for my rra .308. I figured i would drop down from my current load and work em up a little bit. So i sit down throw 10 43grn charges and start to look at the length of my bullets and how full the case is. Hmm go back inside do some google searching, people say they are doing it, so i go back outside throw the case in my press and the bullet wont even sit on my case without first being "ducked" under the die. Hmm i think to myslef thats a first. So i turn my back reach out far and push down the lever, after about two thirds of the stroke i quit. too much crunch. lol Take the case out check it for length and im still 10 thousandths out (going for 2.8" oal to fit in the mag) and the powder is compressed. Any ideas???

Im using remington brass and i know the volume is less than winchester but really? is it that much?

TSX's are a little longer than standard cup/core of the same grain weight because the solid copper is less dense than lead. They tend to seat deeper in the case when mag box contraints dictate COAL.

Try a little faster powder, or try a drop tube....

Any particular reason for the 168's and not the 150's?

I used these bullets alot in a savage PC, load is 46grains of Varget in Winchester brass standard primer and coal is 2.790. Shoots sub 1/2 moa most of the time these are accurate, and very good on deer.

sorry i didnt put the powder. Its IMR 4064. I have had really good luck with it behind the 168 a-max so i htought what the hell ill buy some of the high dollor bullets and see what happens.

I use the 168 gr. T-TSX exclusvely for my hunting rounds. They are devastating on game and are extremely accurate. I shoot them out of my Savage 10FP .308 Win. with 24" barrel.

The load I settled on was 44.1 gr. of Varget in Lapua brass with CCI BR2 primers. I get right at 2700 fps. and 1/2 MOA accuracy to 300 yards when I do my part.

I have also used IMR 4064 and got great results in the 43.0 to 43.5 gr. range with the same components stated above. The velocity in these were between 2680 to 2750 fps. I went as high as 43.7 gr and got velocities in the 2850 to 2900 range. A very compressed load that was WAY TOO HOT! The reason I didn't stick with IMR 4064 was the temperature stability thing. Since these were my hunting loads I wanted them to be as consistent as possible from temps below 20 and as high as 100 degrees. The accuracy is defintiely there though. I was getting very similar results to the Varget load.

If I were you, I would start around 42.0 grains of the IMR 4064 and do an OCW test working up in .3 grain increments up to 43.5. If you show pressure signs before you get to 43.5 then stop. As far as the seating issue goes, I have the same problem. I usually have to run them through the seater a couple times to get the right length.

Oh yeah...try seating them to a COAL 2.810" too. That was were I was/am getting the best results. The Barnes bullets seem to like a jump.

Re: 168 grn barnes tsx

Hey
Just picked up a Rem700 Tactical, looking for suggestions on loads. I use Sierra bullets, I hear 168g HPBT work well, any input will be appreciated. Not sure if approaching this forum correctly, learning as I go
