178 amax load for 20-24" 5r 11.25 inch twist

ive looked and looked for loads on here and there arnt that many...i was hoping peeps with this load and an 11 inch twist might share their thoughts. im hoping to get to 1100 yards with this bullet.

I am trying a load with the 178 Amax and some 4064 on friday out of my 18.5 rifle. Ill try to remember to post what happens.

I am getting good results with:

Winchester Brass
46 Grains Alliant Powder Pro 2000MR
178 Gr A-Max
CCI BR 2
2.80 C.O.A.L.

My loads for that gun with the 178Amax or 175 SMM are:
43.3 gr of Reloader 15
43gr Varget
47gr 2000MR

I tried everything to get this bullet to shoot well in my 5R. In mine, it prefers 2.800 length rather than jammed or close to the lands. With Varget I found CCI primers work best also. Reloader 15 & 2000MR doesn't seems to care.

47g 2000mr was a bug hole group for me but I ran out of the a max and started loading the 178HPBT with varget and stayed with it for the long range stuff.

These are the loads I use in my bolt and AR's and they are 0.5 moa groupings with the SMK's, I go 2.005 coal from the tip.

Tried this out on friday. Has yet to be proven over time but these are the results I got this weekend.

Hornady AMAX 178 IMR 4064 42 Federal Match 210M 2645 AVG - 8 ES 0.75" Group
Hornady AMAX 178 IMR 4064 42.5 Federal Match 210M Group Messed up
Hornady AMAX 178 IMR 4064 43 Federal Match 210M 2756 AVG - 14.5 ES 0.65" Group

Compared to the velocity I got with the 175s and be accurate this load is awesome. Hopefully it works out over the long term. Hopefully this helps you some...

43.0 Gr of Varget gives me right at 2600 fps and 5/8 inch groups(40.9 was 3/8", but the speed was not there)

I like 44.5 - 45 grains of Varget under the 175s and 178s.

44.5 in Lapua, LC (Mil) and FC cases, 45 in Win., Hornady, BHA and other commercial cases.
