I've picked up the AICS for a .308 and now need of completing it with a barrel. I should also mention that it is bedded for a 700.

This is my 1st bolt action .308 and I plan on shooting between 100-800y

Any good leads?

Re: 1st Bolt .308

If you have a local Dick's Sporting Goods, pick yourself up a 700 ADL Varmint in .308.

If not, then have your local gunshop order you a 700 SPS-Varmint.

You are going to toss everything but the barreled action and trigger, so the fact they come in a crappy plastic stock doesn't matter.

Re: 1st Bolt .308

You will need to get the SPS Tactical AAC-SD model for a threaded option.

ETA: The AAC-SD model is 20'' barrel with 1/10 twist. I think the Varmint version comes with like a 24'' or something but not sure on twist or threaded options.

The chassis replaces the stock so your left with the barrel and action from the Remington 700 being fitted into the AI chassis. The chassis is designed to take magazines and they feed directly into the action. All you would need then is glass and mounting hardware.

Re: 1st Bolt .308

evil, there is no plate. The ADL has an internal magazine, and the bdl(sps tac or varmint) have a floorplate that swings out to remove cartridges from the bottom.

Lonewolf suggestion is sound, as you dont need the factory bottom metal or the stock. You will go to Dicks, get your ADL, remove the stock and bolt the barreled action into your AI. Just make sure you have an AI mag to go with your stock.

All of the 700 barreled actions have a feed port on the bottom to feed the cartridges into the receiver.

^^ Agree with all above. Get an ADL at a Dicks Sporting Goods Sale; it will run you about $350 with rebates. You have the AICS, so the rest is a moot point, but if you intend to keep it in the original stock, I can confidently say that with a little sanding here and there in the barrel channel, you can free float it, and clear a dot drill. ADL varmint at that price is not threaded, is 1:12 twist, and for me, likes 175gr FGMM or SW-Ammo 175 gr. It does stabilize down to 110gr Barnes TTSX at up to 200 yds though; YMMV with handloads.

Re: 1st Bolt .308

Ok I didn't want to start another thread so here's my next dilemma. I'm mounting a SB 5-25x56 on a R700 WIN and would like to try and reach 800 yards with a zero at 100. Why SB on a 700? Well someday I hope to own a nicer rifle.

What moa 20 or 30?
