I've been thinking about running a 20" barrel on my 6mm instead of the normal 28". Anyone else running a shorter than usual barrel on their 6mm? I looked at GRT real quick to get an idea of the trade off, and it would put be at around 2600 fps running Berger 105. Reason I'm looking at going shorter is that a 28" barrel + 8" suppressor puts me in an awkward position when moving and just gets ridiculous.

I was thinking of do this for my daughter first rifle I have 6cm in night stalker it might be a little much on recoil for her first centerfire rifle. I think the dasher at 20inches would be pretty good and still get okay velocity.

The last 6-BR barrel I had was a proof cut to 22".
Using the same powder charge as my 26" Criterion, it was within 5fps of it.
Cut that bad boy and rock on.

What are you trying to accomplish with the rifle? I assume since a 20” suppressed Dasher is an option, this isn’t any kind of competition rifle, so sure, 20” makes as much sense as anything.

I have a 10” 243win and a 15” 6 creed. I had a 14” 300 wsm for a while, and had a 11” 7 BR. All of it works.

My plan is to compete with it. 20-22 inch barrel. If I can reliably reach out to 1000 yards and not cause over pressure (with can), I’d call it good

EH... A lot of stuff can be fun to use for matches, but a 20 inch "anything" wouldn't be on my short list. Balance would be my biggest concern for a competition rifle. A lot of us are shooting 26-28" tubes with 6-8" cans and not having issues with maneuverability - and there remains good reason why so many of us are NOT shooting 20" tubes and ARE shooting 26-28".

As someone who plays around with a 28" 6BR, I want all the velocity I can get. Beyond 800 yards, it lacks the energy compared to my 6x47L with a 26" barrel.

Why chop so short? You can do it if you like, I ran an 18" 6 ARC at my first PRS match. I'm not still using that rifle for PRS, but I was curious if I could make it work. I hit the 1040yds longest plate of the day while missing shorter ones, and the wind was pretty stout at times, making me want more speed and thus longer barrel. I would be more concerned about losing speed than about "light and handy" because you can train on the heavy/long piece.

I put a 26” Dasher M24 into a Manners G2 Compact stock a few years ago for my son (years before the Nightstalker came out), he was 9 at the time and ~65lbs. Total weight was ~17lbs. Even with an Omega 300 on the end for suppressor only matches, he manages the rifle on his own.

Finale in ID last year, he was 11, like 4’9” and wrestled 80lb that season.

6BR
22" Brux
105 Berger VLD, danzac coated
2704 fps
30.4 gr of Varget

95 gr SMK's run 2879, a bit flatter with similar wind drift, about 30 ft/lbs less energy at 1000 yards (408 vs 438). I'd also need to check the powder charge (data is in the shop). 8.7 mils vs 9.6 with the 105's @ 1000
