I went down to Charles Elliott WMA today to zero my POF 308 at 100 yards. I set the zero stop on my Vortex Viper PST 4-16x20. After that I worked on the consistency of my fundamentals. I noticed that follow through makes a huge difference when shooting an auto-loader.

First shots of the day.</span> The top shot was a pulled upward cold bore. my cold bore shots became more consistant as I kept shooting. Cold bore is consistently .5 mil left. Im lucky it lands right on my left .5 mil line. After the cold bore shot it stacks the next few rounds. One thing I have noticed about shooting an auto loader is that you tend to get the rounds out faster than a bolt gun. Which makes your groups open up when the barrel gets hot as well. The groups start to open up when the barrel is to hot to touch.

4 rounds after zero.

Left shot is cold bore. Followed by 3 and I pulled the last one on the right, bad follow through.

The next 5 shots. not the best but still not too shabby.

The best and last group of the day!

Re: 20" POF 308 at the range.

Hey man, I finally got my scope for the POF and some SW ammo so we'll have to do some shooting soon. I'm working on improving my semi skills also. It's a big change from the bolts. I did the same thing the first few times out with mine. I loaded ten rounds after getting my zero. Went for a few ten shot groups and shot too quick, barrel got hot and I was struggling with consistency of my form

I got one form TAB gear and I love it. Its well worth the 20 bucks.

Also not only loading the bipod but loading it consistently. As well as consistent pressure on the cheekweld on every shot.

Re: 20" POF 308 at the range.

Follow through is everything on an autoloader. make sure you are able to call every shot - that is the path to accuracy.
These guns are a bitch to shoot well.

Though you got a nice one and are off to a good start start.
Thanks for the pix!

Re: 20" POF 308 at the range.

awesome stick

I had to sell my pof upper for liquidity, it was 14.5 but very accurate

Hopefully soon I will have funds to get another upper
I don't really care what lenght I wind up with as they all have their advantages

Good thing I kept the lower, it came with the timney trigger which I absolutely love, it is the first quality trigger that I have gotten to try so I couldn't get rid of the lower

Re: 20" POF 308 at the range.

The pof seems to need more follow up then all other rifles I have fired. Maybe its the piston thump?

I would not copper clean that barrel, let it season. It will shoot better and better if it gets seasoned. If you copper clean or clean the hell out of the barrel the groups will open up. Just shoot and carbon clean.

Yeah I just Bore Snake it about 5 times after the range and that's it. I don't use a very aggressive cleaner either. Only CLP break free.

As for it requiring more follow through than other autos i really don't think it does. It requires as much attention and consistency as a good bolt gun.

Re: 20" POF 308 at the range.

I went recently to Gunsite hills in Lexington GA. A really top notch place if I do say so my self. Chief is a great guy. Here are just a few photos.

I ranged all of the steel from 100 yards all the way to 727. An angle cosine indicator would really help with thoes targets between the 476yd and 654yd targets.

The Remington is my friends rig.

One of the few groups I shot that day. Was having to much fun just dining steel to worry about groups. This one was at 686 yards.

Re: 20" POF 308 at the range.

At about 4:30pm the sun was almost directly behind us and it was reflecting off of the shiny base of the bullets as they left the barrel. you not only got to see a nice vapor trail but also the little sparkle that was the bullet heading towards the target.

Son... maybe yours were over the target! I do recall you missed the coke can :p

You should throw the shots you made in my thread. Did you take pictures?

We still need to go shoot some time!

Re: 20" POF 308 at the range.

Wouldn't mind checking out Gunsite Hills sometime. I have friends with access to a private range out to 800 and have been trying to get them to take me out there but right now they're hooked on night time hog hunting

I don't try. I DO! Just bustin' your balls Craig lol

Here is the damn good 3 shot group you shot on the steel next to mine at 686 yds. Nice hit on the red by the way. pretty cool seeing that black blob get a little bit bigger 3 times in a row!
