Thinking about spinning up a 20 practical (neck down .223 to .204) wanted to see if anyone here has messed with one, any powder bullet combos info appreciated.

Sir,
I am a huge fan of the 20 Calibers. Doubted them at first but they simply do what others cannot match. I have likely fired 12K rounds through a .204, 20 Tactical and 20-250.
The 20 Tactical is a .223 necked to 20 cal with a 30 degree shoulder. Should be nearly identical.
32 grain bullets do it all for me in the smaller cases. They will shoot right along with a 22-250 55 grain for drift and trajectory with the low cost, low noise and low recoil of the 5.56. Kill just as well or better. Suggest you get a copy of Todd Kinder's book THE TERRIFIC TWENTIES. Well worth the cost. Todd also has many supplies for 20 caliber loading etc. Lot of data.
When its all said and done I would suggest you consider a .204 if your magazine allows. Buy Hornady 32 grain ammo and never look back. It will amaze you. Have fun.

Bullets, Sierra 32 grain, Hornady V Max or Z Max which is now really cheap at Graff and Sons.
I have some barrels if you want one. Krieger.

Im with ya 100%!!!

Ive got a 20 vartarg and it might be the coolest rifle i own, absolutely vaporizes crows , ive got a spare .204 barrel , so i was thinking about the 20 practical because of the simple bushing die switch on a 223, only other option would be the 20 tactical , whats your velocity and barrel length on your 20 tactical??

I’ve been shooting one for a few years now. I would have gone .204, but those didn’t feed well out of AICS .223 mags. Between a buddy and I, we’ve barreled several now using my reamer, and all have been lasers. I’ve got one with a 19” barrel in a MPA Ba lite chassis. Sweetheart of a gun.

I prefer the Sierra 39 blitzking. Never had an instance where the 39 didn’t outshoot the 32 at 300 yards and beyond where I do my OCW tests and a lot of the prairie dogging They track really close in drop, but the 39 wins easily in drift. I found this to be the case in my 20-221 fireball as well.

The Zmax bullet does shoot well though, and is hands down the economical choice.

We’ve used h322(my favorite), benchmark, and 8208xbr.

Barrel length is 27" and velocity is 4100-4300 at 60 degrees IIRC. I will look tonight. Case life seems to be fine as I have some loaded 6-8X.

BTW, I have a near full 500 count box of 39 grain Sierra Blitz kings if anyone is interested.
