200gr for 30cal loads

I have a question on a common 30cal grain weight between my .308 & .300 WBY. Do you see any negatives to loading a common projectile weight of 200gr for both rifle setups?
Rilfes:
AR15 300BO 8.3” barrel (1:7)
AR10 .308 16" barrel (1:9)
Weatherby Vangard 300Wby - 26" barrel (1:10)

Just trying to commonize reloadind supplies.

You might be better off with a bullet in the 175 gr range. Rifle twist in the 308 might not be up to heavier slugs. If they are then 220 gr may be better.

I have been loading 210's in .308 Win and big .30's for over 15 years. If you are going to load them in a .308 Win, make sure you have a 1:10 twist. They will shoot "OK" in an 11.25" if the barrel is over 22", but still marginal at best when getting past about 200 yards. If you are running a proper 1:10, you can stabilize them and reach on out there just fine. They won't be fast, but they will carry some good velocity and KE down range producing some very good ballistics for wind.

Unfortunately, there will not a true 1 and done bullet for your setups, because they are so different in platform and cartridge design... Here's my opinions based on my experiences...

In an AR10 platform, I would NOT load anything heavier than a 175 with supersonic loads. I would honestly stick with Nosler 168 Custom Comps, or Nosler 175 Custom Comps if you are trying to recreate an M118LR load using LC 7.62x51 brass and CCI #34 primers.

In your AR15 in .300 BLK, I load Berry's 220's with either H110, 300-MP, or CFE-BLK powder and CCI 450's for subs. Works great. I have a pretty good load worked up that works great across all my .300 BLK rifles, both semi-auto and bolt-actions, so I have a basic standard subsonic "plinking/range load". I do have some precision .300 BLK subs for my bolt-actions using Nosler 210 RDF's...But that's a whole different conversation.

As for your .300 WBY, you can still get some great velocities with a 215 Berger Hybrid and still hunt with it, just be sure to use a LRM primer (I use either CCI 250 or Fed 215M) with a really slow powder, such as Winchester StaBall HD, H1000, or IMR 8133 if you happen to find a jug of it (it's been temporary discontinued since the Ukraine shit kicked-off, don't know if it will be coming back).

I actually tried this experiment a few years back. The 200-220 gr class bullets work great in the 300 BLK (as subsonic) and 300 magnum cartridges. They just do not work well in 308 semi autos.

I found any load that attempted to achieve a ballistically usable velocity in a 16-18" 308 AR was very hard on brass, and also led to reliability issues due to overgassing. This was from a properly gassed rifle, with adequate buffer weight, for 155-175 gr class bullets. The recoil and torque from the rifle was also increased, and placed high demands on the shooter for consistency.

If you want a 1 bullet solution, try something like a 178 ELDX or ELDM. You may still be able to get it to cycle subsonic in a 300 BLK depending on the gas port.

So sierra released a new 175gr hpbt gameking this year. Dimensionally identical to the 175 smk, even has the same bc, but it's meant to reliably expand. Could be a strong contender for a good all around .30 cal bullet. And it would do well at 300wby velocities.
