This is a <span style="font-style: italic">"local"</span> match and we're still working on the dates. The format is flexible and we intend to try some different things as we get it going. I'll update the web site and this thread when the first dates are set. This post is a heads-up.

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

About 365 miles to Douglas...hmmm... I've been wanting to do something like this for a while. Keep us informed as to dates. Weather depending, I'd love to make this one.

Thanks,

Chilo

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

It doesn't say on the match web site, but will one be required to carry their weapon or weapons during the movement phase?

I'm assuming so.

Sounds like fun.

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

we are working on dates to get up there again and drop some steel. We want this one together pretty bad cause we all want a place we can get up to for a workout and training rolled into one. It's going to happen pretty soon

Very anxious!

You should add a dumbass division, for multiple 5 mile loops.

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

Zak,
Ok, went to the links for the Combat Biathlon, Rules, etc. and cannot find much info there. Sorry to ask, but I have a few more questions:

It mentions a min. 9mm pistol, will we be engaging pistol targets in all three divisions?

What's the rules/requirements for the Carbine division, can I use my TRG-22 with 20" barrel since it's technicaly a carbine?

What's the upper limit's on the Rifle division, can we use 338LM?

With the lack of snow this season, assuming there will be no snowshoes or ski's needed? That is if we don't have a huge snow storm the day prior.

One hit per target, or multiple hit required?

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

Hi,

Each match this year will be a slightly different format. The method of movement depends on ground conditions: pick the best based on what you think you'll find on the ground. The equipment divisions and what guns are required may chance some month to month. For April, it's detailed on the schedule link and for future matches it'll be listed there as well. I don't think we'll have any snow to expect to go on foot.

The Schedule tab at the top lists the format for this month

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

Quick question, I've never done a comp like this...do most compete with the rifle slung, or with the rifle in some kind of pack like an Eberlestock? I have both. Was thinking of using my X3 Lodrag, but wondering how easy it'd be, or not, to remove the rifle at each stage.

If most use a sling, how do they carry ammo? Thanks.

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

So the match starts at 11am... Will there be a sight-in period before that? What time is the match expected to finish by?

Will this be a ~5 mile course (different targets) or several loops totaling the 5 miles on the same targets?

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

For this first match, we'll have one shoot location with a couple different arrays of targets for the different rifles/divisions. You'll run a lap, then shoot the course, then do any penalty activities, then run another lap...

I updated the exact location on the map tab
http://competition-dynamics.com/combat-biathlon-series-2012/map.php

There is no sight-in prior to the shooters' meeting. The match will be finished as quickly as you can run 5 miles and shoot a short rifle stage 5 times...

Re: 2012 COMBAT BIATHLON SERIES [WY]

Anyone else driving up from the Denver area? I was thinking on driving up early day of, and returning that same evening. Ride share?

Results-

Congrats to everyone who came out! This was a super tough event. Competitors had to run about 5 miles total, in approx 1 mile increments. After each lap, which was on basically a jeep road that went up and down some hills, rifle shooters got only one shot at each of 6 targets, from about 240 out to about 720. For each missed target, they had to do 5 "Rifle Thrusters" (a normal thruster holding your rifle, and your feet have to leave the ground at the top of the thruster). This sequence was repeated 5 times.

We had a rimfire class, where only 6 hits on a 90 yard target were required but extra shots were allowed. Next time we'll make the .22 shooting a lot harder, since our sole rimfire competitor didn't incur any Rifle Thrusters.

+1 - Thanks so much for doing this! As always, CD match have a twist!

This was a fun match, more demanding than usual"run and gun" events! A Lot of fun, plus you get to feel your pulse in your cheek weld!

Maybe next time... </div></div>

That stock tank looked good by the 4th lap.

I'll echo everyone else's comments. Very physically demanding. I'm sore as shit. Thanks Ray and Zak.

It looks like you where making guys do some form of Thruster with their rifles. Looks like fun, hopefully you made them do like 50-100 as rifles don't way much!

There were 6x5 target opportunities over the event so worst case someone might've had to do 150, best case 0 (if zero rifle misses). I think the average person had to do about 75 total.
