2014 K&M Precision Rifle Compeition ***RESULTS/PHOTOS***

All.

We hit 80 shooters pretty quick yesterday. I know there a bunch of shooters in WA this weekend and some that are still trying to figure out their work schedules.

We are going to offer 15 more slots and cap the match a bit higher then I had planned. This should allow the sign up to go a little longer. Once the last 15 are gone, we will start up the wait list.

This should keep the end number (after drops and no shows) in the 90+/- shooters area.

I can't thank you guys or the sponsors enough for the support. The match is going to be awesome! I'll give you guys some teasers as I start setting up the facility and finalize the COF.

Jake,

Sounded like you add a great match this weekend. Congrats! It is nice to have you on board again. You should have a few emails in your inbox to answer now that you have time. ;)

FinBox,

You should call up Trace from Bartlien Barrels. He has sponsored the food for the past three matches and I believe is going to do the same this year. He always throws some barrels on the table too!

We have a great bunch of sponsors lined up for you all. I just updated the website and first post with the current sponsors. We still have to contact a few more as well.

Current sponsor list as of 03/03/14

I'm assuming that I should prepare to lose any brass that hits the ground . I know the match will be too high tempo to catch brass while I'm shooting , but was curious if afterward there would be a chance to recover it. Not gonna cry over it but considering how hard it is to get now a days it does hurt a little. Just curious ? maybe a dumb question ?

Mark the hell out of your brass and you stand a good chance of recovering it. Generally at k&m everybody collects all the brass when we get a chance and dump it in mass on one of the tables. If you mark it you stand a good chance of recovering a fair bit of it.

YEP!!!! Marking it is very helpful. Preferably in the most unique way.

Thanks for the replys guys . Very helpful . Will be looking forward to meeting yall at the match. Some of the screen names look familiar but I cant place a face with them. Will be coming from the Villa Rica , GA area (west side Atl.) . Anybody else from my area coming ?.

FG01,

No reason you shoud not recover 90%+ of you brass. Marking does help, in most stages we will make you wait until the stage is over to police brass up. That way it keeps the match running.

Yep, I get about 90% of mine back. use a sharpy marker. Go to staples, office max etc and find some different colors besides black.

I mark mine while they are in the 50 count loading tray, before I load powder. Place 10 in first row and lay the marker on the tray and spin the brass to get a nice mark at the same hight on the side of the brass. Then the next row, etc

Tape a black and a red marker together ( or any other color combo) and you'll have a very easy mark to find.

This method is far better than marking the primer area of the brass, you want to grab your brass and go, not pick up every piece or brass and look at the primer end for your mark.

The other 10% of my brass is somewhere in the boulders. :)

Quick update for the match.

We are 2 months away and I only have 4 slots left. Once they are gone, that is going to have to be it. It has been almost 4 weeks since registration and I have met my intent to allow everyone the opportunity to sign up over time. We will have to stop at 100 in order to keep the integrity of the COF and the match. Because we can take more doesn't mean we should. Especially, now that sign up has been ongoing so long.

The COF is being tested and has a lot of newer stages with injects that keep the K&M feel but provide new looks for our regular guys! I'm excited see what you guys can do!

One can never have to many ROs for a match this size, so send me note if you want to help out.

We are about complete on our sponsorship commitments. The prize table is looking very good for the shooters! Please reach out and thank these guys!

Typically how many rounds are fired per stage? Trying get an idea how many mags/mag holders I'll need. Would I be ok running a 10 round with a single 5 round backup? Also trying to decide which rifle to shoot. Should I be prepared to have my surgeon beat and scratched to hell? Seems like from the videos, some of the stages could be hard on a gun. Not a big deal, just curious.

I always have three 10rnds mags ready. Rarely have I need that many. If I'm shooting 30 rounds in say 90 seconds I've probably just burnt a 6mm barrel up or firecracked the throat pretty badly. Lol.

I have 2 10 rounders and a 5. Hopefully that will be enough

Most of the time I keep two 10 rounders on me. The others are just loaded and on my bag so I can grab them for the next stage(s) and not have to reload the mags after every stage, especially if I'm having to be briefed on the stage. I prefer to listen and make notes instead of load mags while the RO is explaining particulars.

Guys,

Joe hit it on the head. 2x 10 rounders and 1x 5 rounder would be fine. If you only have a 10 and a 5 rounder, there is only one long stage that will leave you wanting another mag. x2 10 rounder would be ok too.

Sometimes certain positions call for that 5 round mag to get a better position, but that is shooter dependent.

Quick question on the movers. Do they always move at the same speed? Is the shooter given the mph of the mover to figure lead or is it unknown?
Also, are we usually given one shot per target or are you able to make follow up shots if you miss? Sorry if the questions seem weird but it will help me decide on which reticle I'm going to use. H59 or h2cmr

I'd say if I had to guess you will find out when briefed for the stage.:) I know at the big dog steel match I heard everything from 1mph to 5mph as far as the speed of the mover. I don't think the difference between the two reticels will make or break you on the movers but the h59 may be a little quicker (at least for me) to maintain a constant hold if engaging multiple times on the same target.

The h59 has the mover/lead holds on the main reticle. They are designed around a 175 smk at isa atmosphere but they still work out fairly close to my 260.... But the h2cmr has such a crisp feel to it. If we are allowed multiple shots on same target then the h59 is a no brainer for me

I would purchase the H2CMR reticle. It is fantastic and great for the movers

No telling what Shannon has cooked up but you usually take 5 shots or so at the mover. They will move at the same speed all weekend but target size could change from Sat to Sunday.

Guys,

Their will be 3 mover stages. Both movers will travel approximately 2.5 MPH, target size will vary on firing position and distance. I typically allow at least 5 shots on string, we always have a few newer shooters and the ability to follow up and get a rhythm helps them get on. Hope this helps.

Any idea on round count? I've got all of my 6mm Creedmoor brass all nice and prepped. 200 are sitting in the trays but I have more of needed.

180 rounds is needed for the match. Round count for the tune up is up to the shooter (recommend 75-100), add some zero rounds I there and you set.

Just finalized the COF yesterday. It is going to be a fun match with high scores. 95% of the stages should be complete in the allowed time but most shooters. They are only 5 rounds on paper. Most points are 600 yards and in. You guys are in for a hell of a match, it is going to be fun.

I still need to check my notes, but we might currently be a few ROs shy for my comfort level. If interested in being apart of the event and helping out please let me know.

I will ask around, and see if I can beg/borrow/bribe/blackmail a few warm bodies into coming out and helping.

Irokcrawl,

Shooter's won't be ROs. It wasn't directed your way, opposed to others lurking on the thread.

Shannon

Roger. If I didn't enjoy shooting the matches down there so much you could count me in as an RO. Maybe then I could pick on Jay Carter while he is shooting :) if there is anything I can do to help just let me know bud.

Guys,

Check the roster and make sure you are tracking your name. We have been full for some time, but I have not said no to those that have attempted to get in late. At this point, I'm just too full to let guys in without compromising the COF. We have all seen what happens when you take too many didn't plan for it at other matches.

Those that didn't sign up for the Tune-up and wish to shoot it can just pay that Friday when they show up.

Remlin,

Yes most stay in Crestview, all the restaurants are in Crestview there are i think 2 around Baker. The drive from Crestview to the range is around 30 to 40 minutes.

You might want to look into hotels asap, this match is over a holiday weekend and rooms are booking up fast.

If you bring the wife/girlfriend or family you could look at Destin but you are going to be driving a good bit

How far from Destin off the top of your head. that was my plan but my daughter actually will be with her mother then so I may come down by my self and stay in Crestview.

As B.Bates said, it's about 90 minutes, depending on traffic. Also be aware that the most direct route will take you over a toll bridge, and possibly through a toll road (I haven't used the new toll road yet, so I'm not sure if you'd have to pay to get to Crestview). If you don't have a Florida Sun Pass, you'll want to make sure you have cash to cover the tolls.
