A recent thread on the Berger 215 VLD got me curios about throwing heavies from my .308 so...

210gr Berger pushed by Reloader 17 from LC brass and CCI LR primers out of a 20" R700 AAC-SD. Netted interesting results.

Quick pic of the 210 next to a 178 Amax. Loaded to 3.050"

I started loading at 43.3 and added .3 grains for each of the loads in order. Last load was 45.5. I didnt feel any compression, of course I never have before this so I may not know what it feels like.

The groups were large at all the lower charges and started to tighten up around 44.5 ish. At 45.5 I would say they tightened WAY up as pictured here...

In all honesty, that is the smallest group I have EVER shot. Nice to know it can be done from the factory Hogue stock.

I am reloading some rounds tonight and heading out tomorrow to do some more testing. Probably going to start at 45.5 and work up to 46 or a little more since I still dont have any pressure signs. If the the accuracy node opens back up I will know to keep it around 45.5 though.

I do not have a chrony but I threw all the data I did have on my Strelok calculator and I should be getting approximately 2600 FPS out of this thing!

I will post more tomorrow when I get back for the range.

Pretty much exactly what was used by the top shooters in MR at the Bisley Imperial meeting in 2012, including 1st place. They push the 210's fast.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Could you take that out to 300yds and see how it stack up with 5 shot grouping, i'm thinking about 208A-Max with R17.</div></div>

Mt Marine has a thread here about this combo; lots of good info. Someone here pointed it to me the other wk because I had a lot of 208's, but running out of 178's. I'm currently at 45gr in LC brass. No ejector marks, but the primers are showing what may be higher pressures. Bolt lift is typical Savage... My starting charge of 43gr was compressed (loaded to fit mag / approx 0.080 off lands). Groups at ~300 are one big splater on steel. At ~500, all shots kept on 6" steel. No paper groups yet; just playing around to find pressure limits. Real windy this weekend, so didn't fool w/ chrony. From 292yd 0, additional 1.7 mills put me on at 485yds. This is a 1:10, 26".

I like that kind of stuff. I will read more on this subject, to see what I can learn before going at it.
Looking forward to see your results at further distances.
Good shooting.
