Pondering a rifle in this clambering. I am wanting to run the 80 grainers and want to hear from some who are doing this. What twist, barrel length, etc?

A friend of mine runs one with a 1:8 in a 26 inch barrel I believe. He shoots 75-80gr amaxs and it does very very well. He put a headshot on a prairie dog at 553 yards with it. I have shot it a few times, and as expected, no recoil and hits are easy to track. It is also very flat shooting and pretty good in the wind. If I am not mistaken he was ballistically dusting my 260 albeit a lot less on the barrel life side. It might be worth it to go faster twist and run the 90 grain bergers and JLKs. The BC on those bullets is pretty amazing and the 22-250 can move them out.
22-250, 22x47L, 22-243, 22-6mm are all great for the heavies in .224 and any can be "AI'd" for a little extra umph.
8 twist like the fellas above already mentioned. Ultimately, your application should determine barrel length, but personally I wouldn't go shorter than 24.
I just ordered a .224 blank with a 1-8" twist. It's gonna go in my DTA, so I'm gonna cut it off at 22" and use with my suppressor. I did think pretty hard about a 1-7 and run the 90 grainers. However, I don't read anything good about the 90 grain bullets available. Looks to me like the 80 grain A-max is the preferred bullet. I'd like to shoot it in matches so all I need is 3100 FPS. Also, I think I will put some Trail Boss loads together and shoot the 80's subsonic. Seems like a hoot.

22-250 is my all time favorite groundhog cartridge. I smoked over 500 whislte pigs with that cartridge through my highschool years. Worst thing I ever did was get rid of that gun. I will have another 22-250. 12" or less drop at 300 yards...are you kidding me?!?! Flattest shooting gun ever w/45gr. My holdovers were retarded small, and I rarely ever ever had to dial that gun.

I have been wanting to run this exact same setup. What kind of speeds are you getting? What were the reamer specs? Thanks.
I had my smith set up the reamer for a COAL of 2.780. This gives me a 0.01 jump and puts the bullet in the correct position in the case. I use RL-19 per Walt's recommendation. Max charges give me a 10 shot average of 2889 fps.
Shoots great, 5shots under 3/4" boringly. I had this rifle built specifically for my dad to hunt deer with out of a blind. In that role it has excelled.
If you do one I would have the reamer set for a COAL of 2.760 and jam the 90 bergers 0.01. There is plenty of room I took it out to the max COAL to take advantage of every bit of case capacity.
I run a Bartlein 8 twist 25" long. SHooting 77gr Bergers at a little over 3300 fps. That rifle is the most accurate one I own with the exception of my long range BR gun. Typically in the .2-.3 neighborhood. Just shot a .039 this last weekend. Any miss is due to something loose behind the trigger.
Again, I am awed at the responses. Especially appreciate the time you gents take to post pics.
