I'm curious too. My brother and I have been wondering how a 22-250 with a faster twist than traditionally found on this caliber would push a 90gr smk.
Several guys on here shoot them with great results. 7 twist barrel should sling the 90's well. I see a lot of guys running the 80gr Amax and bergers. This will probably be my next barrel for my dta
I asked the same question a few months ago. There was, i think I am remembering correctly, a diminishing return at some point with the bullet weight. Don't see how it could not outperform a .223.

The 250AI might get better barrel life than the straight 250. That is if what I read about the shoulder of AIs being a benefit to throat life.
I've taken the 22-250 out in the real world using factory loads against .223s with custom loads. On prairie dogs out to about 500 yards (usually less), the 22-250 won every time. The .223 guys were dialing and screwing around while I was just popping prairie dogs with my 22-250. There was no contest whatsoever. I imagine the .223 might very well against the 22-250 on a known distance range with everything set up just right for you but in the real world (Wyoming), you don't see coyote hunters shooting .223 for unknown distance shots in the Wyoming wind. They like the 22-250 and the .204.

There is a gentleman outside of Houston that does very well with a 22-250 AI, shooting mini-clays at 250-400 yards. Shoots the 90 grain Bergers IIRC. Reasonable barrel life, not great, nothing with small bores and lots of powder is magic, as far as barrel life goes. It plays on a more than level field against the 6.5/284's that usually dominate this arena.
Shooting a 1:10 22-250 up to 64 grain so far. Been out to 500 yards with no issue. I probably should have gone a little faster on the twist for 70-77 grain or so, but I wanted to conserve barrel life if only a little.

I have a 22-250 Savage LRPV with a 7 twist barrel. I use the Berger 90 gr. VLD bullet Wolf primers. The powder changes from H4350 & H1000. I think I run them at a very pleasant 2979fps. It has fairly routinely given me 6.250 - 7.500" 5 shot groups @ 1,000 yards. You can push them faster but I was happier with the accuracy at this fps. The throat wear is way better than I thought it would ever be. I have a bore scope & check every time I clean it. Very happy with the throat @ around 800 rds.

So I built myself a 22-250AI with a 7.5 twist bartlein. I've been doing a bit of load development with 77 grain smk's and have tried 6.5 staball and H4350. Neither shot anything better than 3/4 MOA at 100. And velocity with both powders maxed out around 3250fps before I started seeing pressure signs. Took it out this weekend with H1000 loaded up and was getting a conservative 2860fps with no pressure signs but the moa wasn't any better. I'm loading up the H1000 a bit hotter and going to see if the added velocity helps. I'm at about 85% case capacity. I have about 250 rounds thru the new barrel and I'm hoping I can get this bullet to shoot better than 3/4". Has anyone done any load development with the 250AI and heavies? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
I now run a 7 twist Carbon Bartlein on my 22-250 pushing 88-90 gr at around 3100 fps. I’m running the N565 vihtavuori powder at around 36- 37 gr.

< barrel life ~ 100088 gr ELDM and RL-23 has been my favorite combo out of my 1:8 22” 22-250 AI. 3150 FPS and stacks them.
I’ve had good results with the 80 gr ELDM (RL-23) and forming with 77 gr TMKs (RL-15).
This is 3 shots at 330 yards with the 88 gr ELDM.
