Im just wonderin what people with experience with these bullets have to say about them. And whether I go with the small 36grn or the 50grn to get the most carnage out of it permitting my gun will shoot the tiny bullets well

Re: .224 barnes varmint grenades

I wouldn't shoot them unless I had too. Very inconsistent weight and results. I'd shoot 40g V-max on the light side for carnage and 50g V-max or Nosler for yotes.

Re: .224 barnes varmint grenades

I use the 36's over some H110 with small rifle magnum primers in my hornet, with great results. Never tried with my 220 Swift, or and of my 223's.

Re: .224 barnes varmint grenades

i have had terrible luck with them in 2 different 22 250's and 2 223 rifles. were not accurate at all. i completely agree on the vmaxs. i have had good luck with the 40 grainers dropping the coyotes too.

Re: .224 barnes varmint grenades

Problems here too went with th 36 grainers and by the time i slowed them down enough to produce a decent group"which was sub par by the way" I was at speeds a 55 grain projectile would have been traveling. Stick with nosler or vmax in 40 to 50

Re: .224 barnes varmint grenades

The commercial for them says "sniper like accuracy" but good luck getting it with the tiny BC those bullets have.

I'd stick with the 55 or 60 gr Vmax for the several inches of penetration. Plus Hornady and other brands are more consistent than Barnes, I think it's called runout where the bullets aren't the same diameter around.
