.224 projectiles over 100 grains???

Re: .224 projectiles over 100 grains???

I only know of the 90 vld. Is this for the 22-243 in progress? What would a 224 100+ griner do that a regular 243 and 105's couldn't do better?

Re: .224 projectiles over 100 grains???

I hear ya. Seems to me when the wieght goes up the speed goes down. What speeds are you currently expecting with that chambering? Say with a 75 amax or 69 smk?

Re: .224 projectiles over 100 grains???

I think I read that Kirby Allen of the Allen Mag fame has a 224 dia bullet in the 100 or 105 gr range that he makes for his 224 Allen Mag.

Talk about a barrel torching monster, I think his info that I was reading talks about 3600+ with that bullet adn it launches 75 Amaxes into the 4k range.

I'm personally on a 22-284 quest that I hope to reach 5300 fps with some 35gr Vmax... maybe they'll even survive long enough to hit a waterballoon at 25 yards.

Re: .224 projectiles over 100 grains???

Bohem, you might as well use steel bullets to keep from self-destructing in flight. Its not like steel against steel will matter in that case given the 100 round barrel life for a cartridge that hot!

Re: .224 projectiles over 100 grains???

I run 90's 3500 out of my 22-243AI. It's not showing any signs of pressure at these speeds either. I don't know how long it will continue to stabilize them. It's a 1:8. 80gr amax's go over 3600. I'm using RL22, not retumbo.

Yeah, since I'm doing all the metal cutting myself and I own the reamer I have an Adams and Bennet 1:14t barrel for the 35's quest, and the rifle will be getting a 1:7t Shilen CM Match (no reason to shoot a 250 dollar barrel out in 200 rounds) so that I can shoot the 80-90gr bullets in the 3700 range for a few hundred rounds before a setback is needed.
