22GT load data

All the loading manuals and data out in the world are just a starting point. The maximum load in all firearms will differ from one gun to the next. From lot to lot, for bullets, powder, barrels etc. So many variables that a book could never have a perfect load for all of them. All while the books normally stay on the safe side of pressures. The older manuals have much hotter loads then the newer printed ones. Probably for liability reasons, everyone being sue happy now days.
All loads should be started low and worked up while watching for pressure signs, working up to find the maximum load in your particular firearm.

For y'all with 22GT what seating die are you using?
I have a RCBS Matchmaster 6gt die set for sizing with a .249 bushing. but was wondering if i'll be ok with using the 6gt seating die or will have to buy a separate seating die?

SAC Ultimate Micrometer seating die.

I use a LE Wilson SS FL Bushing 6GT die with .247 bushing then 21st Century mandrel for sizing.

I'm using a Redding competition 6GT seater die with a .22 VLD stem from one of my other dies, but honestly the 6mm VLD stem that came with the 6GT dies works perfect too and doesn't contact the bullet tip or leave any weird marks on the ogive.

The Matchmaster 6GT seater works fine, but you have to raise the ram a little to ensure the bullet falls into the case mouth if using the bullet window.

So, I loaded up five 68gr Hammer HHTs for the .22GT. One charge each from 38.4 to 40gr H4350 in .4gr increments, in order to find max pressure. Only made it through the first three rounds before getting ejector marks. But they are smokin’ fast and those three rounds with three different charges went into about .25”.

Hondo….. wondering if you have tried Vargert or 8208 with those 68gr hammers? Been looking at the same load for my 22GT, interested how your development is going.
I have some Varget and N150 but haven’t tried them with the 68gr HHTs yet. When shooting 77gr TMKs, Varget pressured out at a significantly lower velocity than H4350.

I've got a wild hair up my ass to try something.

Ramshot Grand + 95 SMK

Going to use Ramshot Magnum reduced to start. The Grand is similar burn rate, but more energy.

Okay a little help here. I picked up a 22GT barrel from the hide. 7 twist, and .120 freebore... is that right? I feel like the freebore is much shorter than the .169 I have been reading. Any recommendations on load development? I have a ton of H4350 and 88eldm. Dont mine buying new bullets but would prefer to stick with 4350 if possible.

Okay I have virgin alpha brass and some CCI 450's. I like speed, but if an extra 50 FPS is going to burn my barrel out 20% faster I'd rather not? What kind of velocities are you getting with the 85's? I've got a 22" barrel

I'm using a 69/75/77/80gr Rexem and I will be using 2206H for the lighters and maybe varget (2208) for the 80's. Contrary to a lot of popular belief the 2206H commonly hold EXTREME SD's and ES's in the 69 grain range with 223/GT/BR and even the creedmoor. I got my 20 shot string down to an ES of 4 with a 69 and 2206H in my 223. Still spinning up my 22 GT now and I'll report back how it goes. But I have a bit of a love affair with 06H at the moment.

Can you translate that to American Engrish without all the metric nomenclature? Or will your toilet flush backwards?
Sure thing mate!
Yeah nah yeah.. so...
So when out yonder beyond the black stump and gettin up the dogs with the stick.

My powders of choice at the moment in many of those wildcats is 2206H (H4895) and 2208 (Varget.)
I was running 2209 (H4350) in my 22 Creed for ages with a 75 but found I just got near as good velocity but fantastic ES/SD's and accuracy using H4895. Same as in my 22-243 and 22-243AI. My 22 GT will be here in about 2 weeks and I'll be right on it.
Rexem is an Aussie brand of projectile manufacture that are just deadly.

So blimey mate hopefully that clears it up for any flammin' galahs on here.
:D :D :D

Thinking about retiring my 204R for a 22GT to have more of a dual use coyote/short range deer stick.
Local shop has a really good deal on a 20in carbon wrapped anti prefit
I can get N550 but I have a fair amount of H4350 on hand.
I suppose if I don't really care about barrel life, N550 would be the most optimal for 77 LRX and 80.5 Berger ?
Thinking about running about 2.50" coal, 34-35gr N550, Alpha brass, CCI 450 ... seems like the easy button... hoping to hit 2950 FPS with a 800-1000 rounds barrel life

Also got N555 on hand ... maybe I should start with that or is that too slow of a burn rate for the 77 LRX ?

I haven't tried the N550 yet. RL 15.5 has been pretty available and would be in the sweet zone for 77 class.

I’m shooting 39grains of N555 with 75eldm, CCI 450, in a 22” 1:8 barrel, Gap Chamber @ 3190.

It is not for me. I have a long lead so the bullet is set pretty far out.
now that I have 100ish rounds down the tube I loaded some rounds down to 37.5 and was not impressed with anything. Went the other way to 40.2 N555 which is very compressed and shot a very nice ragged hole with 4 shots with 5 fps spread. 3271 FPS w 1:8 22” 75 ELDM. Bolt lift is good and no noticable pressure signs.

Gave up on the 88s after a bit, loaded a case with a max charge of h4350 and an 80 eldm. This is pretty typical for this rifle and load. 20” velocities were about 3125, now that it’s cut to 16.5” same load is 2990fps. Next barrel will be 18”

95SMK G7 ballistic coefficient? My searches have only yielded the ambiguous G1. I am curious about this number for more accurate data for my Kestrel.

Any help would be appreciated.
