I decided to send my 243 off to be rebarreled to 260 after the accuracy started falling off. Besides the new barrel I also had the chamber set back on the 243 barrel to get some more life out of it and recoil lug pinned so I could put the 243 barrel back on myself if I wanted. The 260 barrel is 26" Kreiger 1/8 twist.
Here are some pics of it wearing the new barrel and Vortex Razor 5-20X50.
After testing 142 SMKs, 140 AMAXs, H4831SC in various combinations I figured out what it liked the best...
These were shot with Berger 140 VLDs jumping .010", H4350, Nosler Brass and CCI BR2s
5 shots 2841fps avg, 2 SD, 5 ES
4 shots 2806fps avg, 13.3 SD, 29 ES
These were using remington brass.
5 shots 2834 avg, 8 SD, 20 ES
5 shots 2865 avg, 7 SD 19 ES
I am going to do some more testing at long range this week.
Thanks to Gerald Kuthy at Custom Blue who did all the work on the original build and the rebarrel project. He now has my next project, a 300WM in the works...
