I have searched finding lots for 6mmbr but not to much for 243.
I going to try and shoot 105 vlds with a rem 700 custom with 1-9 twist.
What i have is Retumbo and have load some with win large rife primmer in lupua brass.

My question is that i started @ 46gr and worked up in 0.5gr to 49gr the cases are full to the top with powder. Is this normal for this type of load?

What will mag primer do for me over lr primes?

What col should i start with? In my gun the bullet touches the lads are 2.84 found this out by loss neck size and 105 vld and closed bolt.

Would like to see what everyone else is shooting.

Re: 243 win. with 105gr loads?

I am shooting the 105 VLD over 41.0 gr. of H4350. OAL of 2.760" in my 1:8 twist 22" Krieger for 2950 fps. I am .010 off the lands and is chambered for the 105 AMAX.

Re: 243 win. with 105gr loads?

Jamiebob,
This is NOT my data and I don't endorse it...

105 Grain RETUMBO Min 43.0 2639Fps Max load47.6 2949fps this is 106.8% of case capacity (so a compressed load)

I just surveyed for data on 243 loads using 105gr projectiles... it seems that the majority of happy 243 re loaders ended up with Hogdgon 4350 powder using around 42gr from what I gathered..

105 Grain H4350 Min 35.5 2537fps Max.39.7 2807fps 92.0%
(Quickload data using a 24" barrel)

I also gathered the following:
.243 Winchester using Hodgon's Retumbo, (use magnum primers with these loads)
105 grain bullet, 48.5 grains
107 grain bulllet, 48.1 grains

Start low work up!

Re: 243 win. with 105gr loads?

Yes, Retumbo ends up being a compressed load. I shot 105's for years and settled on 46.5 gr of H-1000, 2.922 COL. It was right at 2953 fps and very low E. There were zero pressure signs from this load in my last barrel but it is considered a hot load, start with less powder(...new barrel is 243AI).

Not trying to hijack.....
7mmRM,

What length barrel, what brass.. did you use a std or Magnum primer?

That's great speed for a 105gr...

Thanks RJ

Re: 243 win. with 105gr loads?

That's good to know thanks,
I'm just building a 243 with a 26" Kreiger barrel. I was hoping to be able to achieve approx. 3000fps with 105's so that should be attainable.

btw. Did you ever try Magnum primers with your pet load?

Yes, they are up to the rim. I use the same powder 48.8 grains of Retumbo, cci 200, wcc brass, and 2.800" OAL. It drives around 2978 fps. And yes, it's sub MOA. And yes, it's my Remy stock barrel too.

Re: 243 win. with 105gr loads?

I shoot nearly the same load. 48.5 gr of Retumbo lit by a 210M primer with a 105 Berger VLD touching the lands. It gives me right at 3000 fps. I use WIN brass exclusively. MOA to a grand and beyond.

Re: 243 win. with 105gr loads?

If you are looking for speed with a 105 try reloader 17
start at 40 gr. and work up my load is 42.5 g and getting 3150 out of a 26" barrel factory remmy 1-9"

Re: 243 win. with 105gr loads?

Thank for all the help got mine out today to test my loads.. Best I got was .401" with 105 vld retumbo 47.2 seated @ 2.800. Going to play with the seating and see what happens. Should be shooting around 2950 ish I think.
