What kind of scope would you throw on a 243 WSSM AR for coyote hunting in Montana.

Wanna be able to get on them quick up close and also want to be able to stretch the gun out to 800+ yards.

Thanks!

Geez I thought 243 wssm went the way of the dodo already.

Any who, a FFP 3-15ish of some flavour, what exactly depends on your budget.

It's the absolute ultimate varmint slayer in a small frame AR. Nothing else even comparable. Run an 80-87 gr pill at 3250-3400 fps safely. Mine shoots Hornady A-Max's into 1/2-5/8 MOA.

I'd agree on the 3-15ish FFP.

Here's an old post of mine with some mag info (if you are making them yourself). I think Oly may have fixed the newer mags they have or maybe a whole different mag.

Why's that?

It was never a particular popular cartridge and Winchester stopped supporting it a while ago.
Not saying there's anything wrong with it, just surprised to hear about it, though with some quick Googling it seems it's somewhat popular in AR15s.

I like the PST Gen2 3-15x44, not too heavy or expensive.
If your budget is more into the $2000 range then there's a lot more options: Razor Gen2, Burris XTR3, NX8, Leupold Mark 5hd. All options have different pros and cons, depending of you want lightweight or a short scope etc.

SFP is what you want, your shots are still mostly going to be closer in. you want a scope that works well on its lowest power (your scope will be on this power most often) AND in poor light conditions. 3-12 huskemaw. don't laugh. I know the crowd here wants to. but its designed from the ground up as a hunting scope. cover up the name of the scope with athletic tape to make yourself feel better. I have static tested mine on a tall target and ran it for 2 seasons, I really like it. I also like the ziess v4, but the 3-12 doesn't come with turrets and the 4-16, I prefer 2.5-3x on the low end for FOV and running shots.

the other guys are telling you tatical/competition/range scopes. scopes are trade off's. you always give up something. a competiton scope makes a poor hunting scope and a hunting scope makes a poor competition scope. coyotes are my passion. I spend a couple weeks a year chasing them, from wyoming to nevada.
