.260 and RL 22.. Anyone made it work

Re: .260 and RL 22.. Anyone made it work

It works well in the 260 for me, very accurate but a bit temp sensitive and running it in a gas gun meant that I couldn't push it overly hard. For temp stability and simplicity I've resolved to just H4350 in the gasser.

From a friend's bolt rifle it was excellent and got some screamin' velocities. Another good alternative would be to try H4831sc as it is more temp stable with a very similar burn rate.

Rl22 and 4831 are both a bit slow for the 123gr class bullets, it worked better for me with the 140's.

For the 140 Amax I was pushing 44.5gr without issue in the gas gun, IIRC about 45.5 was the ticket on my buddy's 24" bolt gun. Both using necked up Win 243 brass.

I appreciate the info guys ...

I went this morning and shot 45.5 RL 22 and 46.0 and both had zero pressure sign

Both loads were very compressed
Also both had about the same groups as well 1/2 to 3/4 moa

gave the h4350 a try as well and started way low because of past issues with pressure

one group of 41.5 and one at 41.0 to start with

Re: .260 and RL 22.. Anyone made it work

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I've been looking for info on RL-22, how it works with the 260, and I've read a lot of conflicting reports about its temperature sensitivity. I tried H4831sc under 129gr SSTs in my 20" Model Seven and wasn't thrilled with the velocity. RL-22 gave me 350 fps faster velocity and a 3-shot group at 100 shrank to 0.174". I know this wasn't with 140 gr pills and it's a walking around hunting rifle, but I was surprised that I got a 2,897 fps average out of that tube.
