Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

I cleaned Sniper's Hide Dots today at 200 with
Win 7-08 brass sized to 260
CCI 200 primer
139 Scenar seated at the lands
42.3 H4350
Speed was a average of 2811, single digit ES/SD

Most of us use H4350, and the rest use H4831sc, your gonna find your sweet spot somewhere between 41.5 and 44 of 4350, or 47-49 of 4831sc

Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

Save yourself some time and start with H4350, I started with varget in my .260 and it shot good. 1/2 moa or better and I was satisfied, started with my .308 load. I saw so much info on H4350 I switched and have never been happier, 42.5 of H4350 is good for 2750 or so, I can depend on 1/4 to 1/2 moa easy, low E/S and S/D. I shoot 142SMK or 140 Amax.

Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

VERY mild load used for whitetail hunting that mimics the Remington Accutip factory load, but I've found:

RP Brass
41.5gr H380
120gr Nosler BT
CCI 200

Shoots exceedingly well out of both my 8-twist 26" Criterion and my 9-twist 22" M700 Mountain LSS.

I've been using H4831SC for load development in my Criterion and haven't had consistent results with the 120 A-Max yet; had better luck with the 140 AMax in very limited (20rd) testing. I recently got 2 boxes of 123 AMax and a box of 140 SMK to try...I know I'll find something just as soon as I get around to loading some up and going to the range (sigh).

Really, 47-49gr of H4831SC with a 140gr bullet? That's where folks are finding a good high-velocity accuracy node?

Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

Any brass, 142SMK, roughly 43.5-44gr H4350 gives around 2850 from my 1:8", 28" barrel (going above 44.5gr puts you over published max). No transonic transition issues out around 1000yd (roughly 1000ft ASL)

Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

I have an old LH Savage Tactical made in '98 with a 24 in. bbl. My best load is the 139 Lapua infront of 42.5 grains of Vit. 550. They are running around 2860 fps molyed a little faster naked.

Also try the 140BTLRs with 42.2 of H4350 at 2.875" give or take a few thou. I have SDs between 4-6.

+1 Greg is spot on here.

My 8 twist Bartlein LOVES 44gr H4350 below a 139gr. Scenar bullet, Federal 210M primer & fireformed factory Remington brass. Brass life has been excellent (I neck size only & am getting 5-6 loads per piece) & no issues with bolt lift, pressure signs, etc.

Obviously, WORK UP TO WHATEVER SWEET SPOT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR as the caliber seems to do very well with several different load/powder variations.

Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

Rem Brass
CCI 200 primer
140 SMK / 140 Nosler Competition
45.0 gr H4350

This is definitely above book max, but I am getting no signs of pressure at all. Work up your load individually. I tired a lot of different powders in the 260 and none of the shot as good as the H4350

Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

Interesting - one of the popular reloading applications would say many of those loads are over pressure limits. Are these loads compressed as well? I can't wait to start cooking up some loads for my GAP 260.

I am on the H4831SC bandwagon with dar. Lapua 139's or Berger 140's 47.0 to 48.0 depending on brass make and how flat you like your primers.

Have fun but PLEASE do so cautiously. I'm a HUGE .260 Remington fan & would be interested in your findings.

Best of luck to you & BE CAREFUL!

Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

Oh but of course!

I've been using 120 A-Max and only tried up to 45.0gr 4831SC with fairly dismal accuracy and absolutely no pressure signs...looks like I can probably work up to a higher node or two.

I've only sent 20 downrange, but I did find slapping a 140 A-Max onto those same charges resulted in MUCH better accuracy...and again, no pressure signs. Can maybe eek a little more velocity out of this one too...

Did I mention I need a chronograph? hehe

Re: 260 Rem. Load ???

So far I've found 46.0 gr. of H4831sc pushing 140 gr. SMK's and A-Max's 0.010" off the lands work best through my 21.5" Broughton 5C, No. 7.1 contour barrel. On average I'm getting 0.2 MOA out to 600 yards. That's as far as I've tested it yet. I haven't tried any of the 47.0 or hotter loads suggested above and probably won't bother. I'm extremely satisfied with the results so far.
