Did a seating depth test with the 162Amax. Same load as above:

All the groups are "good", haven't measured them yet, but will this evening and re-post with picture. It appears "touching" the lands with the Amax is the best. And I noticed a velocity increase the closer the bullet got to the lands.

Gonna give a Barnes TSX 150gr a go in my hunting rifle.

I am done with the 140 grainers as of this year as I cannot get SGK's to shoot decent, Nosler BT's didn't do well for me on a deer shortly after starting this thread. I switched to 139SST's for this last years hunt and it was a clusterfuck.... I shot both deer in the 150-175 range and got next no no penetration. It knocked both deer down in their tracks but did not kill either one of them. Not sure what I was pushing them. Its written down on the test target but who knows what the hell I did with it.

Nosler brass (new box)
H4831SC gonna hit 60 grains
Switch up to a F215M primer as I have been using a 210M

Misc seating depths. I was playing with my new 300WM rifle last week and I used the same load just played with seating. Made a diff of either shooting a hole or shooting an inch.

The norma mrp is a moderate load no cratering or flattening, and the 7828 ssc is a mild load with no pressure signs, though norma brass does have more case capacity that win, rem etc and my throat is a little longer than saami spec. Keep in mind the pressure specs are so that it can work in a lever action (58500 psi), a bolt gun like a modern cartridge 270, 300 wm, 7mm rem mag all have pressure specs well over 60000 psi. So the determining factor on visible pressure is strength of the brass or more precisely what spec the brass is made to before it shows any pressure. In my experience the norma 280 brass I fireformed is stronger than the other brands of brass I have worked with (contrary to normas reputation for being soft), though I havent tried the nosler 280 ai. Hope this helps

I'm also looking for loads with 160gr Accubonds. I'm have Retumbo, H4350, H4831, H4831sc, IMR-7828ssc, IMR-4831, RL-22, RL-17 that I can try.

Also looking for a load for 100gr Sierra Varminters as well. Especially looking for a SAFE starting load with RL-17. I will probably try Varget, H4350, H-414, RL-17.
I have CCI #250's, WLR, Fed 215m.
Thanks for any and all info, this has been a good thread, too bad I have no desire to shoot the 162 Amax.

I have shot many loads in my 26" Pac Nor barreled 280 AI but the one I use is 63 grains of Retumbo with a 168 Berger Hunting VLD FED. Match primers and Nosler Brass loaded to mag length as it's on a DBM Remy action.
.3 groups all the time and drops them where they stand everytime from Deer through Elk can't say more about just excellent ! Working on a 338-06 AI right now but not nearly the results I've gotten with the 280 AI at least just yet!

^^^Professional Hunter1, try a 185 gr Barnes tipped TSX over 58 gr of IMR 4064 in your 338-06 AI. Mine is astoundingly accurate with that load and it is just devastating on game. Velocity from that is right at 2985 fps from a 25" 5R.

I have a perplexing issue with my .280 AI. I recently bought a Savage with a 22" barrel. I am loading Nosler 168 ABLR as that is what I have. My available powders are H4831 SC, H4350 and Staball. I am up to 58.7 grains of the 4831 and only running 2730 FPS. Primers are just starting to flatten. This is .7 over the hottest load I have found listed for this round. I am at 54 Gr of the 4350 and at 2752 FPS. This is a book maximum. Again I am not showing much for pressure. The primers are starting to flatten but still have a bit of margin left around them. Finally the Staball. This seems to be the most consistent of the 3 as my SD is only 4 and my ES is 9. I am at the book Maximum of 55.5 and the primers look like the other 2. My frustration is that for this round to be of much benefit to me I really need to be mid 2800. Being that I'm loaded as high as I am, Do I dare keep loading up. Is the 22" barrel even worth it?

That’s a pretty short barrel.
Personally I’d go bit further with H4831.
I think you can hit 2800 with it without issues.
