I have a Remington 30 AR Manufactured by DPMS for Remington. I always have a extra complete bolt assembly on hand for all of my AR15/AR10 rifles incase of a failure during hunting/target shooting. I called DPMS to purchase a extra bolt for the 30 AR and was told to contact Remington. So I called Remington and after being on hold for approx. ten minutes I was told I had to get it from DPMS as they do not carry any parts for the R-15 rifles. Anyone concerned about that? A second call to DPMS I was told that I could not buy a bolt from them I could only have it replaced by sending the rifle in for repair and or replacement. I asked again and the person became agitated and stated that was the only way! So for all you owners or potential owners of the 30 Remington AR don't waste your time calling them for replacement
bolt/carrier parts unless your rifle is damaged and or not functioning properly. I find this unbelievable as I build AR15/AR10 and have never heard anything like this before. So if you are planning a paid hunt with your 30 AR and have a bolt problem that requires only a simple bolt change you are out of luck because you will not be able to carry a spare complete bolt assembly with you for that occasional problem(extractor/ejector breakage). Had I have known this prior to spending over $1600.00 (trigger/Robar NP3 coated bolt/JP buffer) I would have looked elsewhere. All of my other nine AR15/AR10 rifles I built myself but never would have built one with a cartridge/rifle combination that I could not have a spare bolt assembly for. The only way I could have one with this cartridge was to buy it from Remington. Should have done more research. I will be pulling the barrel/carrier out and building one with what is left in a parts friendly chambering. So if you are considering buying the R-15 in 30 Remington AR you may want to look at a different rifle/cartridge combination.

I was recently "sniffing" around that caliber. My thought would be to wait/search for another gun from some one experiencing the same problem. OR : want to sell the upper? When buying classic cars, you some times have to buy 2, or 3 to make 1.

If it was me I would totally avoid anything Remington/DPMS. Its like they are both in charge but neither wants to make a decision! Something is wrong when you own a AR15 and can't get a spare bolt for it. I don't know what there reasoning is but after next week it does not matter as I will be selling the barrel/BCG and converting to something other than a bastard cartridge conceived during a circle jerk!

I agree to a small amount on avoiding Remington/DPMS, but they do build a pretty decent BUDGET base AR platform that can be modified or run moderately as is. I do find it a bit unusual you can't purchase a spare bolt from the manufacturer, but are you actually shooting it enough to wear out a bolt? Hammering it hard enough to shear a lug? Just curious and I do get the "oh shit" preparation, but if I was doing a paid hunt I would have a spare rifle, not just a spare bolt. And I would bring a large frame AR or bolt gun too...

The 30AR offering was the classic fantasy land cartridge release; get gun rags to drum it up as the next great thing, get the niche buyers to fork out the money and fail to support it afterwards. With 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC and 300 BLK alternatives to 5.56 out there, it really didn't stand a chance in competing in the small frame AR market. Like I said, it's a niche round, barely a step above wildcat, and cannot compete with the others. Thanks to the Hide you will hopefully avoid such wastes of money in the future.

Good deal on the rebuild, otherwise you will have endless frustration from that rifle, and I'm sure others researching the round will appreciate the notice on lack of support.

Had another thought. By your account of the conversation: They would only give you a "fix" if you sent in the gun. Leads me to conclude that they have the parts, but only for malfunctioning guns. I think that's a law, somewhere. This could restrict what they can sell or do with parts that are held for "repairs". They have to "support" the rifles produced. Try calling them back and say" I lost it" or "It just jumped out of the gun, and fell in the river" NOT "I just want a spare". Might work. You may have to send in the gun {without the BCG}. Guy opens her up :no bolt group= duh= easy fix from the parts bin.

The 30 RAR upper receiver, barrel extension, bolt, and barrel nut are totally unique to the 30 RAR R-15. There isn't another design out there that shares anything with those critical components. The barrel extension is a much larger diameter, so it won't fit in any other AR15's. It isn't the same as an AR10 extension either, since the AR10 extension teeth are longer.

The upper receiver is only useful with the 30 RAR extension in it, and can't be used with another AR15 extension, no matter what caliber you choose. The only thing that makes sense is a caliber conversion, keeping your existing extension, and re-barreling it if you want to change something, and this has been done with 7mm, .358, and .458 bores based on the 30 RAR or 284 Winchester cases cut down, and necked.

If the gun is working right now, it will sell to those who are big fans of the 30 RAR upper/system, especially wildcatters. Any pics of the rifle and upgrades?

Don't know whether it's new production or old stock, but Buds and Wholesale Hunter both have current availability for Rem R-15's chambered in 30 RAR.

I would definitely like to see them bring it back and do it right but this thread was about parts availability not rifles and when this thread was started neither were easy to find.

dumb question....I own an old rem. pump ( m-141-s ) in .30 Remington..... is this the caliber we are talking about...???..or is the 30 RAR different...???.........cause up here in Wi... it was/is a very popular deer caliber....

Hey Bill: I. too. have one of those old pump guns, in 30 Rem. Luckily, I also have one in 35 Rem, so I can still get ammo for it. The 30 Rem AR is just a shortened .308, and not close to the older cartridge. I got excited about it, thinking the same as you.

Check the Alexander arms 50 beowolf bolt. I believe both it and the 30 Remington are made from the 284 win parent case. If so a 50 be owolf bolt might work. Check aa's website or call them. Also the 458 so Com might also be from the 284 win. Not sure.....best of luck

You can always build a 30 RAR!! Constructor (H) has bolts and extenstions and you can order a barrel from Mcgowen to fit the extenstion.Heres a thread about a guy building his 30 RAR.. That way you can buy a couple bolts.

Not safe. The 30 RAR needs way more barrel tennon diameter to run factory ammunition, and 30 RAR is SAAMI rated to 55,000psi MAP.

Anyone telling you to run full pressure 30 RAR inside the confines of the AR15 upper, barrel extension diameter, and thread tennon diameter is in the wrong business.

They seem to be running fine. What do you do Paul sell foam lined boxes?

Do you still have the ar-15 30 RAR

Waiting on some parts, maybe here in a day or two...but this is the basic 30 RAR. From 450 Bushmaster brass....I have the homemade forming die, the factory die, to make the cases. Have made both 450 Bushmaster case head and 6.5 grendel case head designs. The grendel case head bolt has more material for slightly higher pressures...will try both.
