300 grain SMK in 338 LM question

I have a 9.5 twist krieger barrel on a surgeon xl action. I found a load that will shoot the 300 grainers pretty well it's imr 4350 but the velocity is only 2650 fps. I was wondering if any one else has any loads that are faster than this that will shoot 1/2 moa or better. Trying to find a load to shoot to a mile is the ultimate goal. I'm at 85 asl.

I get the most velocity with 300gr bullets using Retumbo.

RL25 is a close 2nd.

Thanks for the replies. I will try some N-560 and some Retumbo tommorow if the weather clears up.

I have two loads that do very well out my rifle, Surgeon XL action, 1-10 twist with a 28" barrel built by GAP. I am using Retumbo and US869, I am getting 2850 fps with the US869 and the 300gr SMKs, and 2770 fps with Retumbo. I have ben using the US869 load more. Retumbo is listed as extrem powder and US869 is not. 10 shot groups are one ragged hole at a 100 yrds with both laods.

I'm reading alot of success stories about the 338LM and Retumbo. Does anyone know if that is the powder of choice with a 338 lapua AI shooting 300gr. pills?

Retumbo and RL-25 are pretty popular for the 300gr SMKs (Scenars?). VV-170 and H-1000 would be good, slow powders among the others listed. I shoot 250s, so the ultra slow powders aren't totally necessary, so H-4831sc and VV-165 are two that my TRG-42 likes with the Scenars and SMKs.

My advice is to load to your specific range that you plan on shooting. I shoot out to 1000 yards so I don't need to load the 300s, nor do I have to load hot.

Don't burn out your throat if you don't have to. An extra MOA here or there is nothing to worry about, rebarreling a 338LM rifle is.
