Ok I just had a break put on my R5 300 win mag . Any one else out there have the same ? if so what loads are working for you ? I am using H1000 78-79 grns with a 190SMK . It seems to do best with this powder at these charge wieghts but I know there has to be better . I have been told that a break doesn't affect accuracy and I am in the research stage for loads . Would the IMR 7828 work better for a 190 weight . I have been using magnum primers and am now trying standard large rifle as I get conflicting information on what primers work best . The break was done right and is extremely well done . I am using the little bastard break .Also the 200+ wight bullets seem to be more popular . Any help would be great ! I am limited to 200 yards until I have time to drive to a longer distance range .

Re: 300 win mag R5 700 with little bastard break ?

I have the same setup in an AICS chassis. After the little bastard, I've been able to tolerate a couple of 200 round days at the range. But I've been shooting 208 Amax. Couldn't get anything to group until I switched to H1000, and I am finally under an inch at 100 yds. I'm thinking about trying a lighter bullet to see if my barrel just doesn't like the 208's. I'm at work, so I can't give you load specifics, but I can send some after I get home tomorrow. are you under 1" with the 190's

Cool ! I have had good results with H1000 as well . I'm using 78-79.2 grns with a 190 smk with a federal 215 magnum primer . So far we have pulled sub MOA at 200 yds . Around an inch . I had a major snafu with my rear mount loosening up so I have to retest everything . A good plinker , try 71 grns of IMR7828 with a 168 BTHP match Hornady with a mag primer . It's anemic but does well . I am seating the 208's at 3.440 . Several loaders are stepping them out . Don't give up , the 300 is a odd animal . The joy of it is There are three of us to compare loads . The other loads that looked promising are the following : 77.6 gr H1000 , 190smk , 3.480 oal , magrpimer . 76.5 gr 7828 , 190mk , 3.500 oal , standard primer . 79.5 gr H1000 , 190smk , 3.450 oal , standard primer . I will be testing the 200smk ,220 smk and hopefully the 240 smk this weekend if all goes well . I will let you know how we make out .The heavy bullets seem to be the choice from what I have read . One thing we learned yesterday is the the shoulder of the case should be no more than two thousandths off the chamber after sizing . The case headspaces off the belt so that was new to me but you may already know that . Stay in touch and we can get some loads going !!! Thanks Eric

I built up a load with 190 MKs with 75.0gr of AA3100 and federal 215 primer . And it shoots 1/2 moa at 100yrds . I have a remington 700 police model with 26in barrel , 1-10 twist . Its a little hot , but ok on pressure . Oh , and I almost forgot . I have a vais brake on it , and works really well for me .

Re: 300 win mag R5 700 with little bastard break ?

I load 81 grains of H-1000 with 190 SMKs and 80 grains with 200 SMKs. My hunting load with another 300 WM is 78 grains of RE22 with 168 hunting VLD. H-1000 is hard to beat with the 190+ SMKs. Also I use only 215M primers for the 300 WM.

I also have a 5r 300 wm and can tell you dont buy the 240 smk they wont work with the factory 300 5r.Need longer oal then the rifle has. Bought some ,loaded them no good.I should have looked at the Sierra manuel first it tells you they wont work .Still working on loads with 7828 with the 220smk.

Re: 300 win mag R5 700 with little bastard break ?

Are you talking about the magazine or the COAL not being sufficiant . Also what powder are you using ? I'm gonna try em if they come in ! The 75 gr amax says 1 in 8 or greater but I have the 5R in .223 as well wich is a 1 in 9 . Henceforth , let me explain . the 75 amax won't hit a bull in the ass with a bass fiddle if I use the recomended Varget load , however put 24gr of H335 behind it and it goes from 3" to .75 " at 100 yds . It's favorite is a 68 hornady match or 69 mk with 25.5 gr varget and it makes one hole at 100 if I do my part . point in case , it may be the powder . Not breakin your balls just trying to help and I could be wrong .
