.300 Win Mag re-size issue

I bought a Lyman full length sizing die. I am re-sizing once fired Black Hills (BHA) brass. On one side I am getting this very slightly risen brightly polished ring. I have cleaned out the die with brake cleaner twice now and also used a rag to assist in cleaning out the die of any grease left over from the factory. I have since dissembled the die and again cleaned it out from any residual. Still having this issue. The ring is appearing about 1/4 inch from the shoulder of the case. I am experiencing a little more pressure than is normal when the case is all but 1/2 in the die in the upward stroke. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Gone through 20 cases now that look like this. Have I ruined these 20 cases?

try using either more lube or imperial sizing wax... not familiar with the lyman dies

Is that a crease in the case? Or just a scuff mark?

Im not sure what you mena by a crease. Its a raised ring that is a little more polished than the rest of the case. Might be a crease if thats the term for it. I will try a little more lube, but much more and it will be dripping down the case.

pics aren't the best hard to see... is it scratching or deforming it? if its a deformation u should be able to feel it on the inside of the case with a paper clip... too much lube will in turn dent ur cases so try to avoid that.

if problem persists exchange ur die it might be defective

Case is clean after firing. I have buffed out a couple of cases and there is nothing where this mark is left. This mark is definately coming from the die in one way or another.

I ran a paperclip down the inside of the shell and it didnt hang up on anything. Its not scratched, it looks deformed, yet no other part of the case is affected except this one spot.

This may be your answer...sides of belted mags can blow out a bit and impede resizing..

yes definitely check how much your bumping the shoulder back... there are a couple different gauges to measure this my favorite id have to say is the digital headspace gauge because of its versatility. instructions for the FL dies will often lead to bumping the shoulder too much (in most cases) it takes more looking into to get it right

I don't think this tool will fix the OP's problem. I have one of these dies, and it works great, but it's for the bottom of the case just above the belt.

Before you do anything to the die. Call the maker and talk to them. If it still does it buy yourself a Redding.

Ok I am not that high speed low drag as of yet. How do you check how much your bumping the shoulder back and then adjusting your die to adjust for it?

I sent the die back with a shell that I attempted to re-size. We will see what comes back.
