wanting to rebarrel a 223 win mod 70 to 300blackout. looking for information and ideas about where to find a 1 in 8 twist 30cal blank that would work?

Re: 300blackout bolt action barrel

why on earth would you want a boltgun in 300 blackout? the only reason it was developed was to run thru carbines within the standard parameters and improve wound ballistics. sorry just real confused on this one, school me?

it would be quieter than a semi-auto.

Quiet is good.

[School is in session]You can also run super cheap, super quiet loads like 150 gr FMJ's with 5.0 gr of Titegroup through a bolt gun for plinking. They won't cycle your semi-auto even with a pistol-length gas system. I have lost count of how many Whispers I've owned (single shot, AR's and bolt guns), but the only one I have left is a Douglas-barreled Remmy 700. Send your Winny to them and let them do the rebarrel job. Quick turnaround and decent pricing.[/School is out]

i must need a special kinda school then because your answer can still be done in an AR platform, you just have to single load which is no different than working a bolt. I personnaly dont think the 300 BLK has an accuracy envelope broad enough to warrant a bolt gun when the AR platform is so versatile, just my opinion mind you

[Special Kinda School is in session]Been there, done that VAJay. Pic below is of one of my past Whispers. Registered SBR with a 10 inch Noveske barrel, side charging upper and pistol length, push-button, on-off gas block so I could change between manually operated bolt action and standard semi-auto. I just didn't like it as much as I do my present bolt gun. Not as convenient to operate manually as a bolt gun and a standard AR is even worse with its conventional charging handle placement. Operating a standard AR manually is WAY different than operating a bolt. I do agree that the accuracy difference is neglible between the two platforms with SUBSONIC ammunition.[/Special Kinda School is out]

Re: 300blackout bolt action barrel

I can say I really like the bolt gun 300BLK,300/221,whisper. It is one of the most fun guns I own and people at the range like to give it a try. With 220SMKs its super quite and 110 vmaxs are a blast.

Re: 300blackout bolt action barrel

Built mine on a remmy model 7, with a 16 inch McGowen barrel. It is far more accurate, and quieter than my AR. It rarely goes in the safe. 110 vmaxes go into one hole.

Re: 300blackout bolt action barrel

I have a mini mauser cz lh in .300-221 that was just opened up to .300 blk. Great farm gun, accurate out to 200, quiet. Deer, groundhogs and other pest with out a signature. That and my .44 integral are the workhorses around the house.
Always guaranteed to bring a twisted grin to the mug.

Re: 300blackout bolt action barrel

I built mine on a Rem Model 7 as well, very happy with the results. I also used the McGowen barrel and had them turn it for the Pac-Nor RemNut which allowed me to do the install at home much like you assemble a savage.

One thing to note on Bolt rifles, some do not like to eject the really short cartridges. I have a Savage 12 in .221 Fireball and the brass is able to turn enough while still in the chamger to escape the extractor and just sit there waiting for me to fish it out. The fix was to remove the ejector because at least I could get it back to easily grab. Another note is the extractor location on the fireball Rem's are in a different location than the standard cartridges, I never knew this but lucked out in the fact that I used a 17FB as a donor. Not to say that you will have problems with others but just wanted to make you aware of some possible issues. Since you are converting a .223 I'd suggest cycling a .221 shell and see what happens.

Re: 300blackout bolt action barrel

Had a 16" remmy bolt gun in 300, sold it to build an AR, now I regret that. Bolt gun was quieter, for sure.

AR is funner, but more dicks at the range feel the need to tell me it is illegal now that I'm running an SBR suppressed.

I hate the range dicks.
