Hunting & Fishing 300WSM and 155 AMAX?

I have come across a load for my 300WSm in a 155 AMAX and SUPERFORMANCE powder. It groups good and runs right at 3220 out my Savage. I have never hunted with the AMAX bullets.

Have any of you used the 308 cal 155 AMAX for hunting? What results have you got?

I hear that the 168gr and the 208gr do well.

I have used the 168's and 178's on deer, I would not have a problem with the 155's, just never used any.

In my 300WSM, Savage, I used the 190JLK last year on 3 whitetails. Velocity was 2950 @ 3,885, was hunting at 2600'. Terminal performance was outstanding. I am using 178gr AMAX this year, 3005fps. Hope to post a pic probably after first week in December. Will be switching to 185 Berger Hunting VLD. I am on a quest for 500 to 1,000 yard clean, one shot kill. So far in 30 years of hunting 400 yards is furthest on deer/antelope. 450 on the prairie dog. Quite the learning experience.

any Amax will do just fine

Although I am going with the 185 Berger as well for my WSM

Tex what is your load? I am starting with two podwers RE17 and IMR4350, both project 3K w/ 180's

I tried the 185 VLDs but it didn't group so well. Well for me. I got 1 MOA at 100 but i was getting .5MOA and smaller with the 155 Amaxs. I am running 73.5 grs of SUPERFORMANCE. I am getting alittle bigger group, .5-.75 MOA with 165gr NBT @ 69grs of SUPERFORMANCE.

I am going to try some SUPERFORMANCE behind the VLDs and see what I get. It will be a couple of weeks since I leave tommorrow to go Elk hunt in Colorado. Thanks

I was getting between .95" and 1.2" on the groups. I made the choice to hunt with my .308 and 175SMK for my elk. I just didn't like how the 300WSM was going. I downed one at just under 300yrds. One shot and down she went. Passed thru both shoulders and stuck just under the hide. There was a hole passing thru the size of a tennis ball...

In short the SAVAGE strikes again... Looking forward to Colorado next year already...

I was shooting the 155 AMAX last year out if a 26" .308 at 2980. They performed very well on two whitetail does. Impressive wound cavities with both bullets exiting. I wouldnt hesitate to continue using them. However I have ventured on to the 155 Berger (Orange Box) and so far I'm not looking back...

I also shoot the amax bullets out of my savage300wsm. I have tried the 168, 178, & 208. For long range shooting I use the 208 due to there high bc and there history of performance for me. My load is 63.2gr h4350, 2885fps, 3.15 COAL. My rifle specs are in my signature line. I shoot around 2000 rounds a year in long range tactical matchs and the 208's have never let me down. They have performed very well out to a mile 1750yrds shooting at a 12x12 steel plate as well.

My savage 300WSM loves the Hornady 180gr btsp. I get great accuracy and they are cheep, oh and they kill Everything I shoot with them.

This is a doe I shot this year with the 155 gr AMAX from my .308. It was pretty devestating.

50.2 gr 2000MR

It looks like it blew up and split in two. No doubt they are a killer, but I'll take my Barnes TTSX over these for a hunting load.
