I'm looking for input from everyone here; I optioned my OBR out with a Vortex... but I'm second guessing myself on that choice. What is everyone's take on the available muzzle devices for .308 rifles, particularly for use with precision/tactical .308 AR's?

What do you prefer on yours? How is the accuracy? How well does it hide the flash? How well does it keep you on target?

Thanks for your input!

btw, I forgot to add one option on the poll... Thread Protecting Cap-No device.

I haven't voted yet because your role/priorities/etc. with the rifle are important to the equation.

First, what is your intended purpose for the rifle?

Second, do you want a brake or do you want to reduce muzzle flash (two distinctly different ends)?

Finally, do you intend on running a suppressor on the rifle? If so, which one? Do you want a quick-mount for the suppressor or a thread-mount?

As for the Vortex, it is arguably one of the finest for reducing muzzle flash. That said, it doesn't act as a brake for reduction of perceived recoil or "keeping you on target" as you mentioned in your post. I run a couple different rifles with the Vortex and I have not noticed any detrimental effects on accuracy whatsoever.

Re: .308 AR style rifle muzzle devices

There was a review that I acquired in pdf form where they measured the recoil reduction vertically and horizontally done by Patrick Kelly for Front Sight Nov/Dec '07.

Their winners were the SJC Titan and YTC's TTi for rearward motion (JP was 3rd). For vertical flip, It was the Bennie Hill Rolling Thunder Comp followed by the TTi(again) tied with the Miculek. Of course not everything you listed is in the article.

It can be found here, presumably by permission... http://www.ttiintl.com/documents/pkcompensation.pdf

I have pretty good experience with the SJC Titan, Benny's Rolling Thunder, JP Cooley and a Dreadnaught F2. They are all excellent brakes (my favorite is the Rolling Thunder) but do not provide for diminished muzzle flash.

Primary Weapon Systems DNTC compensator does a decent job in both areas but is not the best in either.
