I bought a DPMS 308 awhile back and have saved the $ to finally rebarrel it with a Krieger bull bbl. I'm looking for as much length as I can get but don't want it to look stupid. On top of that in debating whether or not to thread it for a can, attaching one would end up being like 28" of barrel. Has anyone ever added a can on to an already long barrel. If so any pics? I wish I had the money for a can that swallows some barrel like a SF or KA but I be got to stick with what I can afford.

As for what I do with the gun, usually it's just a range gun and only sees the field on rare occasions. I'm looking for accuracy and haven't found any loss of that with a can and they are so pleasant to shoot with (especially with a range that has a enclosed bench area.)

Thanks in advanced for any ideas or shared pics.

Re: .308 Barrel question

Why so long? The .308 does not give up accuracy with short barrels just velocity. I beleve the difference in velocity is only like 25-50fps per 2". So at most going from a 18" to a 24" may just be only 300fps at worse only 150. That's alot of weight to add for little gain. I run an 18" Fulton on my Mega Build and it's plenty accurate. So you have to adjust when your way out no biggie. I can still carry mine in the woods and not have to see a crackopractor when I get home.

Re: .308 Barrel question

I purchased the standard 20" krieger barrel and cut it down to 18". It is a tack driver. Why 28"? doesn't seem like you'll be gaining anything over a 18-20" barrel. I'm actually looking to go down to 16"....

Re: .308 Barrel question

I went with a 22" JP super match barrel. why 22", cause the 20's were on forever backorder. 28", on a semi auto, you are just adding a TON of extra weight and you really wont see that much of a gain over a 20.
