Ok, I have a load that shoots VERY good out of my Rem 700 sps varmint. And it looks like I am going to have to change it.

I have been single feeding my rifle, But I have a coyote hunting competition in a week and a half and will be shooting the .308

Current Load
168gr A-max
over all length 2.947 (problem is it wont fit in the internal mag)
43.5 gr varget.

So my question is do you think i will over pressure seating the bullets i have loaded back .147 more? to reach an over all length of 2.800.

I am new to this whole reloading stuff so any input would appreciated

Re: .308 load question

Max charge with varget and a 168 gr bullet is 46gr, you'll be fine. I've had great luck jumping Amax's with cartridges loaded to 2.81 OAL to fit in a Remington M700 internal mag.

Re: .308 load question

Call Hodgdon and see what they say. I quit loading for single feed many years ago. One reason I like SMKs is the fact they jump really good. Hornadys may jump well, but you'll have to see for sure. Me...168 SMK with 42.7-43gr Varget, 2.800 COAL, Win brass & primers. Will shoot all day, every day. Watch for flattening or cratering primers. 308 for coyote, holy crap! I use my 223 with 55gr Sierra spitzers (not Blitzkings) for coyote and those puppies go down.

Re: .308 load question

Thanks for the input, Shot 5 rounds to check for pressure signs.. It all looks good, WAY to much wind and getting dark to do any accuracy testing.

boltgunlovr, I had a .204 that I have been using and it worked very well. My dad expressed interest in coyote hunting so I sold it to him for next to nothing to help get him into it. So the only center fire I have right now is the .308 Should work for now till I can get me another dedicated coyote gun
