308: Seekins SP 10 or LMT Defender?

Good evening all, thanks in advance for the help. Ive been reading and researching the world of the AR10. For the price these two seem to offer a lot of value. My primary use will be hunting, target and very casual distance shooting. I will be using a Sig 762 can it for hunting. One consideration is that after talking to the super helpful looks at V1Tactical, the LMT's are running 5-6 months back order. Cabelas has the Seekins SP10 under $2k right now.if it were $, which should you go with?

The sp10 is a good platform but with the LMT, I would really check into the lmt mws. That gives you the ability to swap calibers and remain very accurate with a battle proven platform. One just sold on here for $1800 which is a crazy price for the feature set.

and gas blocks are more user friendly if you wanna use an adjustable.

I vote a Seekins builder kit and Build it up. with a craddock precision bartlein, Trigger tech trigger, JP internals ( bolt and captured buffer) Still come out less then a LMT.

Psh.... At least Seekins gives you the option. But hell if I care its just one mans opinion. Get what you want.

Thanks for all of the input. I’ve spoken with the folks over at V1 Tactical about the LMT and was told they are 6 month lead times due to a large contract.

I own an LMT MWS.

Its great for being an AR, very solid, heavy, quality, but I prefer bolts as they give ME better accuracy.

Both my big and small ARs are LMTs.

If I had it to do over again Id go with a basic Colt M4 in 5.56/.223 and probably a SCAR for .308 semi.

I love my LMTs but for future barrel options I may have issues.

I have been able to pick up an "upgrade" LMT barrel for my 5.56. and maybe someday Ill send an extension off to get fit with a premium barrel brand.

Really though for the role I see these rifles filling the standard CL barrels are fine.

My change of philosophy on ARs has gone from expectations of "all day long sub MOA" to preffering commonality of parts, light weight, dependability and "acceptable" accuracy.

If you go LMT, or any other semi option, check the PX, let someone else pay depreciation and there will be no 6 month wait time.

With my skills Ive come to expect less from semi auto than bolt. "My skills" is the limiting factor.

I don't "accept" that and will try to improve it but basically when it comes to ARs I look at them way more like a common commodity than the obsessed over treasures that my bolts are considered.

My M1A gives me everything I could ask an AR to do for me excepting the ease of adding optics.

I'm not a "sub moa all day" shooter either. We might be the only 2 here from most of the threads I read .

I don't own a bolt gun as I wanted to get all the SAs I wanted on account of assholes always wanting to ban them. I'm good to go and then some. Bolt guns are next.

Are you only looking to buy new? Used LMTs can be found today for under $2k as can used sp10s.

Easy fix! Just adjust the adjustable barrel down to reduce gassing. Not joking.

?? My LMT SBR 10” barrel suppressed is extremely over gassed. Next range outing gonna put an H3 in it to see if that helps. I have a H2 and blue sprinco in it now. Might have to try and bootleg carrier adjustable. Not trying to mess with the gas block

Next time buy the 14.5 and have Marvin Pitts adjust the gas system down to 10.5”.

There’s a lot of different ways to do it. I personally would not want a 14.5” SBR set up.. at that point you mine as well just pin the brake to make it 16” and avoid a tax stamp.

I’m saying buy a longer barrel and cut it back. It’s expensive but unless LMT makes their ports smaller that’s how it be. The good news is their 5.56 guns are ported better than 7.62. In fact their 14.5” M4 barrels from the standard line are one of the few with a .058” port which is perfect for them.

I know V1Tactical has 2 SP10's and a Havok from Seekins in-stock. I think they are offering a bundled discount too, maybe give them a call.
