Suppressors 308 suppressor swr,aac,ymh, surefire

i was looking at vids on you tube, and it seems the ymh phantom is a little more quiter then the aac 762sd the swr suppressor is also pretty quiet, and i couldnt tell on the surefire because he was shooting at an indoor range


your opinions

You can't generally tell jack squat about the relative "quietness" or sound signature reduction of any suppressor from a video. Every camera's mic is different, cameras placed at different distances from the rifle, recorded at one sound level doesn't mean played back at even close to the same level...on and on and on.

Your first line of research should be a search around here (lots of good data on various suppressors, including the mfgs you listed). Also, check out the following:

the yhm phantom works very well, i have compared it to the SRT, KNIGHT's, Gemtech, and soon to have cyclone, all are fairly close IMHO

I have an SWR and love it.
The only other 30 cal suppressor I've heard was an older Thundertrap which was significantly louder.
I bought mine from Major Malfunction for significantly less than MSRP.

If you're shooting paper at a range it doesn't.
I've shot my 26" 308 and 20" 223AI with the Omega on and off and the shift is minimal.
If you confirm at 100 it's not an issue.

I recall you're fielding an MSG-90 clone, what's another couple pounds?

As long as the shift is repeatable you can compensate for it. The AAC supressors, at least the M4 has an index mark so the can goes to the same spot every time.
I've had the opportunity to compare the reports of many of these cans side by side, and IMHO I prefer the sound of the AAC to most others.
I will get into trouble with this one, but here goes... they are all just about the same. Get one, get a good one - you'll never want to shoot without it, and sometimes you'll get annoyed by those who shoot 'rude'.

mlc your right, whats another 2 pounds lol if i remember correctly my gun weight with scope no ammo about 13.5 lbs maybe 14.

and i do understand buy once cry once. i will oppt for a better can, next in line for cheep price yet good build i think is the ymh...

i guess what i will have to do is just email and see who makes them in 15x1m and then just go from their

I run an Omega 300, and Jack is right, it is very quiet. I shot next to a lot of cans at a match recently, and the Omega 300 performed flawlessly. I get about a .5 inch POI shift, repeatable, and don't shoot without it. Major Malfunction truly hooked me up.

I run a YHM Phantom on a .308 bolt gun and AR10, great can, no issues. It ain't small or light, but it definitely delivers.

Another vote for the SWR Omega 300 great quality, great price, great suppression. I run one on my .308 LTR but it does add some weight to the rifle.

Why could it not be done? The projectile is the same size between the 300wm and a 308 .... the WM probably has a larger volume inside the can and I am sure that it is designed differently to handle the higher pressure, but other than that I dont see where the difference is.

Your best source for unbias information and video's is silencerresearch.com.. It will cost you 30.00 a year. But money well spent. THERE you get reviews of lots of differant cans and videos with the same camera set up at same spot. AAC cylone came in first place last fall for 30 cal cans. I have a AAC 762SD,AAC cyclone,SWR Omega 300 and Gemtech Sandstorm. All 4 are 30 cal. cans. The last 3 are screw on and the 762 is a Quick attach. The cyclone is the quietest on my rifles. But very heavy. The SWR and the Gemtech are rated for 300 Win. The 2 AAC cans aren't. I have the 762 set up on all my ar-15's and I have a POF 308 and Armalite AR10. It is very quiet. BUT the problem with the quick attach is that it will cost you about 100.00 for a new mount for each rifle. That cost me 1500.00 on top of the cost of the can. The Gemtech sandstorm is a titanum can and very lite. I use it on my rifles with longer barrells. Doesn't seem to effect POI as bad. The SWR is a great can for 300 win. But side by side on the same 308 gun, the cyclone blows it away.

so cyclone, phantom or 762 sd ? phantom seems in the right price range but the 762 sd seems, well sounds like it delivers more suppression at a lighter weight

Dunno. And I don't feel like convincing anyone to do it for you. I'd rather get you a good price on a new one. Now if you have accidentally damaged your suppressor and are looking at a rebuild, this is another matter entirely...

Titsworth was getting free ammo from AAC. I don't think anyone else was giving him anything for free in the industry. There is more, but I'm not going to go into it. Your best bet is to find a dealer and go fingerfuck the items you are interested in, right there in person. The meter isn't that important unless you are doing R&D. Go touch it and shoot it.

Not only can it be done (I do it as do many others around here) it should be done. I go one better - get the biggest bore size you can conceptually see yourself shooting in the future. I *wish* I would have purchased a .338 and run that on my .308 and .300WM.

I don't know about others but shooting subsonics out of a .308 is a cool novelty but it ain't where its at for me. Full power is gonna sound like a big nail gun and only a slightly bigger nail gun if it is .338 vs a straight up .30 cal mag can with FP ammo.

Probably the difference is the 300 is larger and heaver than the 30. It just seems to me better to stick with the product that is designed for the gun.

I'm gonna agree with Wattsdk for now.

Titsworth's data is corretcly represented in his post.I would not pay for his data, more than enough people are willing to disclose the "winners".

That said I have my SWR Omega 300 sitting at SWR right now, I plan to meter it and other silencers on NFAtalk.org for free. I like knowing I can use my can on both 308 and 300WM, but the AAC Cyclone does beat it in Db reduction.....according to Titsworth.

The Pirate does raise valid issues regarding Titsworth's site / testing.

I would definately go AAC Cyclone vs 7.62SD, the 18 tooth mount seems to get alot of complaints on silencertalk.com vs the Cyclone.

Just know you'll be getting a great can no matter which you pick. That said, I feel that SWR CS is the best around. AAC CS is not up to thier level IMHO. While u may never need it, if u do....

Customer service is where it is at....AAC is lacking...I own YHM/SWR/Gemtech and AWC cans...


I would take a real close look at Liberty Suppressors also...I cant speak highly enough about their service....

i have no problem with swr but I am not sure if thread mounted or qd is better, i know i like the fact I can qd the can on or off in just seconds I hate having to thread the can off when iam done and then thread on the muzzle brake and then thread that off and my can on when i want it

with that said if i had to buy a thread mount iam leaning twoard swr or the cyclone

UM the QD is kinda misleading ...... Its more of a QA (Quick Attach) once the can has been warmed up its a little hot to be taking off just after you are done shooting.

You can't tell much of anything on a video.

I highly recommend the AAC 762SD, and the AAC Scar-H SD... both are excellent suppressors. I used to own some surefire and some gemtech suppressors, but sold them locally after hearing a friends AAC and I haven't looked back.

My opinion is yes... things like durability, lightweight, good mounting system, etc means a lot too.

go to silencerresearch.com, pay $30 for a membership, and check out some of the reviews / shootouts. Then you can make an informed decision. I wish I had that resource years ago when I started buying suppressors... I wouldn't have lost so much money.

AAC isn't the only one that builds top of the line suppressors. It is hard to choose a company and know you get the best whenever you buy a suppressor from them. But AAC is probably the best overall company to try to do that with IMO.

Take 9mm Trident for instance from SWR. Good 9mm can in 2008, etc. But SWR doesn't have a real contender IMO (or when you look at data from 3rd parties) that compares when you look at .223 cans.

All of the major manufacturers have cans that are "good enough"... some are just way better than others.

So I'd suggest not choosing a brand and sticking with it loyaly, but use various comparisons with technical data and first hand experience hearing them side by side (dB don't mean everything, sometimes tone means a lot).

Lastly, when you are buying an item like a suppressor... which you really can't sell easily and if you do, you are losing money... buying the best the first time is very important.

well i do have an evo45, so i know what you mean, but to me most all of the rifle suppressors sound the same.

i do like the 762sd dont get me wrong but the yhm seems to do just as well but its cheeper...

lets not forget this is for an hk msg90 clone not a bolt gun

You asked for opinions so I'm giving one. No skin off of my back if you go with YHM.

I'm jealous, the msg90 is one of the few that I don't have on the HK line.

I collect hosts, as I have two sears.

I use the 762SD on my HK91, HK21, and PSG1. It works very well IMO, even on full auto.

With a lot of experience with different suppressors, I would never buy a YHM as their product line currently exists. They'd have to drastically cut the price, or drastically improve their suppressors.

You may never be disappointed with a YHM. But from what I've seen in your thread, you have a bunch of people who are recommending a few suppressors... did I see anyone besides you espouse the YHM? I can't remember.

My opinion, and then I'll be done with this thread unless I'm specifically asked a question, is that you should not buy a YHM... get a SWR or AAC for quality, durability, and weight reasons... I'd go with the 762SD over the SWR for a number of reasons...

One of them being that you can use the 762SD on your AR15's / .223 HK rifles... with the same mount as you'd use for the M41000 or the older M42000. Sounds great... a little heavier, but now you have two suppressors for your AR15's when you want to go that route.

Anyways, I'm sure you'll always have nagging doubts about your purchase until you own 20+ suppressors and really can see the end result of your purchase... but I haven't regretted my 762SD yet, and I own four other .30 caliber cans

125 at the ear? That is quieter then any other centerfire rifle can that I know of by a large margin.

i actually said .5-.7" groups



kent H. if you have shot your 762sd on your psg and your other hk weapons then by all means tell me your experiances, the only reason i leaned tword the yhm is because it sounded great on an hk21 vid i seen on youtube.

yes yes i know that camera mic's dont pic up the best sound and all.

PLEASE don't put stock in how a suppressor sounds in a video... especially if you are watching a video of just ONE suppressor.

Video sounds get cut off at a certain point, so they ALL sound good

My experience is that the AAC 762SD looks and sounds great on HK weapons. To be honest, I haven't shot anything else on HK systems... I have shot a lot of suppressors from Gemtech, Surefire, AWC, SWR, etc on M16's / AR's though.

I have shot the 762SD side by side on AR10's (and a friends Rem 700) with a Omega 300, Gemtech HVT, and YHM... and while close, the 762 was better for a number of reasons... and I then sold my Omega 300 and bought a 762... so it wasn't even like I wanted "my" suppressor to win and chose it because I had bought it. I lost $375 on my Omega 300 to swap because I was convinced it was better.

Anyways, too bad you aren't close to someone with a bunch of different suppressors around so that youc an hear them in person... videos are VERY misleading.

thanks for the heads up kent, i did a bit more indepth research on the 762 suppressor and it is alot lighter, i do like the quality of my evo45 so maybe another aac can might be in my future.

Give AWC a good look. My Thundertrap is an excellent suppressor. Granted, it is a bit heavier than some, but if performance is what you're after, it's not a big deal. I can also personally recommend SRT cans. I have one of the .338LM TI cans and it is nothing short of outstanding - even on a .308!

went threw my targets i have been saving with the load data and range on them and ya i do have one with .468 c2c with a 155 smk... must have over looked it with all the good luck i have been having with the 168 hornady.
