Hey Guys,

I have an action, with a Mag bolt face, .532, and long action,

I want to do a good bear, moose, African plains, big cat, etc etc gun,

Question,

I would like something just a little bigger than the 338 WM, but don't know if I need the 338 RUM or bigger, and its a touch too long too,

Is there anything in between these two, or should I just do a 338 rum? I cant go 338 edge, because that's even longer than the 338 RUM.

What you all think?

I love the RUM buddy. Great thing is the bullet choices in the 338. You can load down depending what your doing with it if needed. Only thing I have found with the 338 RUM is finding actual 338 RUM brass. If you resize your brass from another caliber then good to go but if you choose not to the selection is pretty limited. Best of luck brother.

Why not 338 Lapua Magnum?

Lots of brass readily available and in a pinch you can buy a box.

Because my bolt face is .532, I think Lapua is .588. Or something like that.
I did not want to open up my bolt face, but looking back on it, I should have started like that. The 338 Norma mag would have been cool too

Try a 338-375 Ruger I am currently shooting the 30-375 Ruger and it shoots great, the 338-375 would be less work on the resizing end. You can get away using 375 Ruger type S dies with a smaller bushing for dies, I went with custom FL resizing die from Mark Spencer for about $140 which was not much more money than type S.

The rounds function well in a 30-06 length action are rimless and have a capacity larger than the 338 Win mag r the 300 Mag so what's not to like??

If it's a typical Remmy long action why not go 338 Edge? The 300RUM is being produced in that action and you're just necking up...gets you more case capacity than the 338RUM in roughly the same form factor. I currently have both 300RUM and an Edge without any issues in two remmys. The 300 is getting run with 208 amax loaded at max mag length for a .020 jump in a Hart barrel and it shoots 1/2MOA. The Edge I'm single loading 300's to the lands for extreme accuracy at LR, never shortened it up to see if it would run at mag length....just a thought..

I think my next may be a 338-300WM....I have a Sako 7RM that needs a new tube..
