Loading 338 LM for AIAW. I am using 250 Scenars, Lapua brass, 215M primers. Almost everyone I talk to is loading for 3.60-3.62" OAL. My first loads were ~3.61" OAL and all went well. So out of curiosity I took a new case and 250 Scenar and bolted it to see what ogive to head of cartridge length I got and it was 2.944" consistently. At 3.61" OAL my ogive to head was 2.945". Are guys loading right on the lands with the AI? Factory Lapua is ~2.884-2.888" ogive to head with an OAL ~3.61". It seems to me that with the distortion the tip of the bullet endures during seating that this could alter your OAL measurements by 0.01-0.02".Common sense tells me to load ogive to head at 2.888" factory. Maybe someone can shed some light on this for me.
