Hello all I’m doing at 338 LM build and I’m looking for a quality gun shop where I can one stop shop. Basically give them all my specs parts that I want barrel the whole 9 yards and have them build it from the ground up for me. And when I mean everything I mean barrel chambering, Cerakote, installation bedding Etc..... i’ve been dealing with too many crappy Gun sellers lately that love to take your money promise you the world and then end up being eight months behind schedule. So I’m looking for quality reliable recommendations from y’all. Thank you all and advance!

In the gunsmith’s defense, sometimes the suppliers for insert-thing-here have 6+ month waiting lists, with barrels, actions, and stocks being the big offenders. If you specify something custom from one of those suppliers you’re going to wait a while.

That said, I’ve heard nothing but good things about the work quality and timeliness of LRI and Altus. Things don’t sit still long at either outfit, and I expect you’d be very pleased.

I haven’t purchased a rifle from Altus but I did get my action and bottom metal there and they were super easy to work with. The representative that I talked to made it clear that their mission as a business was to be a one stop shop for precision rifles. And as a result they keep a lot of things on hand to reduce wait times for builds.

Like gnochi said the biggest hold up are things like barrels and especially stocks, since most shops can’t keep a huge inventory on hand, it just doesn’t make sense for smaller shops. For example I’m in line with McMillan for an a5 that is going to take 8 months or longer.

There’s a trade off when deciding to have a custom gun build vs buying something from GA who may have their specific models ready to ship. That being said I did have a buddy who sent an action and barrel in to DMR LLC in Las Vegas and his barreled and cerekoted action was sent back 2 weeks later but your mileage may vary.

Call Mr Dixon at LRI.

Talk to his wife, she is really nice.

Then talk to him about the rifle.

If they have parts on stock, they can slap one together pretty quick.

It prolly wont shoot worth a damn....

My LRI rifle shot its first 5 rds just under 3/4” with factory 55 gr FMJ ammo..... still have the target too!

Other guys mentioned are good. Prolly not as fast though.
