Looking for input on twist rate for a 450 Remington Ultra Magnum. I'm going to be shooting the 500gr .458 Barnes TSX and the Hornady 500gr. I was thinking a 14 twist should do it but I was considering a 12 twist?
I would go with 12. With the long for caliber barnes bullet a little extra twist can't hurt. You should get plenty of velocity though so I'm sure a 14 would be just fine, it works for the 458wm. Some recent research suggest that a faster twist improves penetration with solids. Post pics of the rifle when you get done, I love shooting the big bores.
Its a 50cal 609gr APIT. The case is a 500ar. A shortened and blown out 416rigby. It can push 600gr bullets to 2300fps. Its the poor mans 500 nitro. I can only single load the APITs. But with 600gr woodleighs I can get two down one up. Here are some more pics. If you interested I'll be happy to give you all the details.
