Hi guys,

I’m having some problems with my local dealer on a CZ 455 mini sniper. (Trainer model in the US).
I ordered it first month this year, long story short, after several phonecalls its not available anymore.

After doing some research here, I see alot of people shooting (well) with a Tikka T1x.
My dealer is looking for me for an CZ 457 LRP.

He has a Tikka sitting on the shelf, what should I do? I know the price of a CZ is higher, but that doesn’t bother me.

I would really love some input on both rifles.

I had a CZ 455 varmint it shot good. My T1X will out shoot it. I will one gun into the mix. Have you looked at the Bergara B14R. It is a Remington 700 footprint. Mine shoots just as well as the T1X. It takes any 700 trigger, I put a Trigger Tech Diamond in it. It is my best 22lr setup.

I stumbled across an LRP and really wanted to love it, I really like a lot of CZ's work, and they were close, nice cheek rest, but plate does up/down/cant with LOP adjustment. The deal killer is the wood stock with no pillars or bedding block, so the stock has to go unless someone creates a pillar/bedding kit for it and looking at the inlet that doesn't look trivial, even then it will never be as stiff/consistent as a chassis when bipod loading.

So for me it would be a no brainer, T1x, even though it has a stock it's $500, I can put it in a Bravo/MDT/Oryx chassis, and put a timney 2 stage in it for under $1100. Even *IF* it didn't shoot a lothar barrel is only another $300, absolute worst case I'm in it for $1400. The other option I'd consider would be the MTR, they can be had for about $650 and again the stock has to go, but you're saving $250 over the LRP that gets you 3/4 of the way to a real chassis.

It's really too bad CZ/Tikka etc. won't do what Bergara does and sell barreled actions.

My Tikka hammered any ammo I put through it. My buddy's CZ will shoot neck and neck with good ammo. The triggers were about the same with aftermarket springs. The CZ did however, have better, and more reliable ejection There is a mod you can do to the Tikka's ejector wire for better ejection (thanks to Kiss Of Death). Don't get me wrong, 99% are fine, but I will always get the one bad one out of 1000 haha. But if it's any of concern, the ejector wire mod completely fixed it. It's super simple to do. So now the million dollar question. Which one I would pick? Well, I would get the one that has better and cheaper support in Europe. Money talks. They are both awesome rifles. But the Tikka does have the cool dragon head on the receiver, and looking cool is 80% of the game. Hope this helps! Happy shooting!

I really can't say nothing about the CZ but, I own a T1X. I have installed a KRG Bravo on mine and replaced the trigger spring. Trigger turned out just over 8 oz. Shooting informal benchrest matches at a local gun club shows me these two rifles are pretty well equal. [a friend shoots a CZ 457 with an At-one stock] In your situation I would get the one that feels best to you. You can't lose.

While I was doing my searches, I had already had a T1x on order, but a 457 Varmint fell in to my lap for a local trade. straight out of the box, the CZ wins. My plans are to put the 457 in an XLR and give it to my son for Christmas. And the Tikka will be going in a chassis for me.

if you are willing to spend on a chassis i would go t1x every day of the week. i have literally never seen anyone report bad accuracy on a t1x. i have seen it from time to time with cz's. also the tikka's tend to shoot anything that you put through them. mine shoots well enough with cci sv that it's barely worth going with a more expensive ammo.

generally the only thing people don't like about the t1x is the stock , and if you are going chassis, that gripe is eliminated. enjoy!

My Tikka outshoots my CZ 452's by a smidge. I've had three 455 varmints as I absolutely love the looks of that gun but my luck with all three of them was not good. They shot no where near what my Tikka or other rimfires shoot. I don't keep a rimfire unless it gets 1/2" @ 50 with good consistency and again, I don't have any 455 varmints now. Tikka has had no problem easily beating the 1/2" @ 50 guarantee. I know other people who have 455's and 457's that seem to shoot really well so it might just be my bad luck.

I want a 457 varmint but have yet to get one. My 452's and Kidd's are all on par with one another but not quite up with the Tikka groups. They all run about .10" behind my Tikka. Unless you set on a bench and keep records like I do, you'd probably not notice the difference.

Don't know if I got an exceptional Tikka or not but all I've done is put a lighter spring in it. Afraid to touch her now because of how good she shoots.

Good luck. I bet you end up happy either way.

When I first got my Tikka back in May, I went to the range to sight her in and begin ammo testing. Storms had come through the night before and the 50 yard target was down so I had to shoot 25 yards. 25 I know is a far cry from 50 but you can see the potential.

It sure does seem to like Eley Team.

Sample size of one.

Bought CZ 457 Synthetic.
- Action canted in stock..(not a huge deal as the stock sucks anyways
- Failure to eject on the last round of every 10 rd mag (Known and documented issue)

Instead of sending it back to CZ for a few months I sold it and got a T1X. No complaints.
For a $500 factory rifle it really doesn't get much better.

Note that if you plan upgrading the barrel for whatever reason, the process is notably more difficult than it is for a CZ.

Nice buy. I can’t believe the money people are spending on rimfire... vudoos etc. And the scopes on em. My 455 shoots around an inch at 100m most of the time, what more do you need? Can buy 3 CZ / Tikkas here in Australia for the price of the Vudoo barrelled action only. Bit of a no brainer!

Ok, so after going to my local gunshop and holding both rifles. I felt the CZ was more for me.
Since I’m located in eu and shipping an Krg stock would cost me $650 incl taxes and import fees, the option for the CZ just was more logical.

My shooting buddy bought the 455 thumbhole yellow in the picture.

I still want to thank everybody for their honest opinion! (y)
