Anybody else have one? I have a 24"barrel,factory brake , on a A.A. Engraved lower with a A.A. single stage trigger and a Eotech It"s a love /hate thing . Damn thing is point and shoot ragged holes with either 334 or 400 grain bullets gobs of energy and pigs stop right there. Brass and ammo is like going on a friggin easter egg hunt . And it cost more to feed then my 300 ultramag BUT it is so damn easy to shoot well I just can't stand to part with it.Anybody else suffer from this crap???

Re: 50 Beowulf

All the big-bore AR's are a bitch to feed. I run a .458 SOCOM and if I didn't have the foresight to stockpile brass and powder I'd probably be in the same boat. However I was planning on reloading this cartridge from the get-go. Loaded ammo is soemthing like $50 per 20. Bushmaster/Hornady are vying to price the Socom and Beowulf out of the market with their .450 Bushmaster. They've been selling uppers for $499 and Hornady stock ammo at like $20 a box. The catch there, is that there are only 2 factory loads avaliable. Reloaders have been cranking out loads for it like crazy though, and are even using .458 bullets sized to .452 in their guns.

AA really put a handicap on the Beowulf and although open to debate, the Grendel as well by trademarking the cases. There are quite a few suppliers of Grendel ammo now, as well as manufacturers offering rifles cut with an equivalent chamber. Kinda like SSK's .300 Whisper cartridge and the 300/221 Fireball deal.

Bottom line its not cheap to feed the beowulf, and from the looks of it won't get any cheaper either. Keep your eyes peeled for brass, and snatch it up. Whenever I find SOCOM brass I snatch it up. I've been reloading the same set of cases for a little over 2 years now, pieces are on 12th sizing and no case stretch has been observed so I'm happy with that.

I feel your pain, but in the shoulder mainly.

Re: 50 Beowulf

Powder Burns I hear ya on the stockpile of brass been there done that(1000 virgins in the stash and 300 that have been loaded 3 times so far) and as far as reloading it's the only way to go as Alexander Arms Beowulf loaded ammo is pure crap. There is a 458 socom upper at my favorite gun shop that I know I can get a outstanding deal on BUT I refuse to start yet another project until my other 5 projects are done. As far as A.A. putting a handicap on the rounds that I will never figure out. The rumor is all the ammo goes over seas to the sandbox which is PURE BULLSHIT. If you can find anybody using a Beowulf in combat he has a good hiding spot we have been chaseing that story for years. Starline is the manuf. of the wulf brass but A.A. can't afford to have enough made to keep up with demand (as per a email direct from starline)Bill Alexander designed two great calibers If somebody would buy him out the Beowulf may survive. The grendel has seemed to found its nitch. But them agian I have yet to find a job a well placed 5.56 or 7.62 would not do and do well. Like I said Love/Hate
