Yesterday I sat the evening on my hunting lease overlooking several fields. A nice mature doe stepped out at 530 yards. I was also trying to get this on video so I adjusted the spotting scope with phone adapter hoping she would stand still. Back on the rifle dialed 15.9 moa and sent a 300 grain Pittman Accumax. The bullet found its mark high shoulder and hammered her.
I am shooting a Savage ML with a Pacnor barrel in .45 cal, shooting bullet to bore no sabot with IMR 4198. This rifle is new to me and I am hooked! I did get the video footage but not sure how to post a video but here is a picture anyways.

^this.

I shoot a CVA inline with a non-magnum load and the furthest I'd take it is 150 yards maybe. The smokeless options have peaked my interest.

Good shot BTW. Any chance you recovered the bullet?

I've been contemplating a long range smokeless for a few years. Give us some info please.

Get you some info later, heading to the woods now. There is some info on some of the videos on my YouTube channel linked above.
You can go full custom or remage brux or savage brux or pacnor. Study Dougs Message board or call Hankins custom Rifles, he is good at what he does.

I've been shooting smokeless for years. I started with a factory Savage and took several shots past 200; with my longest being 333 yards. I'm still shooting a Savage but with a Pacnor .45 no sabot. Bullet to bore swaging to .450 with IMR 4198 shooting 2610 fps with a 300 grain bullet.
My hunting partner is shooting a Rem 700 custom by Jeff Hankins pushing a .45 cal 350 grainer over 3000 out of a 29" brux. I will upload a link shortly with him taking a doe this evening at 865 yards. Extreme Muzzleloading to say the least!
No bullets have been recovered. At 200 yards and in so far they have disengrated with no exit. At 500+ nice exits. Haven't shot anything between these ranges yet.

unbelievable. That was a hell of a shot for any rifle, just crazy for a ML.

Thank you sir! This has has been a quest this year to get one on film at LR. Last year when we took the doe at 826 we did not realize what we had done. After alot of Google searches we found a Gunwerks video of a antelope kill at 715 with one of thier rifles. We set out to beat it and this time on video. I was estatic to take mine at 530 but to witness this was incredible! This rifle has been consistently making first round hits on still in the 800s. We put our time in on the range and made it happen.

Can you tell us a little about the terminal performance of these bullets? Obviously they kill, just curious how they act on impact.

So far what we have seen is the bullets are not exiting at ranges of around 200 yards plus/minus. At these ranges the bullets are exploding and slamming the deer DRT. At extended Ranges we are getting golf ball to baseball size exits and still DRT. Here are our finding so far as terminal performance:
826 yards. 2 1/2" exit
865. Ditto
530. 1 1/2"
175. None
169. None
This is all compiled from shots I have taken or witnessed. None of these required tracking at all!! Tim has shot some much closer but can't speak on performance since I was not there.
We are going to do a follow up video maybe today and talk in depth about the rifle and bullet powder combination. I will post up the link when it finished.

Damn good shooting!! A buddy of mine builds these muzzleloaders also. They are definitely wicked! 900 is as far as he's taken his out to that I know of but was consistently under 3/4 moa. Not sure how to link videos but he's got a 615 yard doe kill on youtube.

It definitely adds another level to the sport where optics and smokeless are legal for hunting.

We shot a follow up video today. I will post it up tomorrow sometime. In the video we show the rifle and discuss the equipment used and try to answer all the questions that have been asked.
I will tell you this, it will be worth while to watch just to hear Tim disclose his load for this rifle, and yes you will have heard him correctly!
