Varget is a little slow for the lighter weight bullets, not saying it won’t work though. I used imr 8208 and H335... I made the following post and was testing the 53 for BC in a few different 223’s and it has some load data in it. http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/showthread.php?t=116510

I've had great success, consistent 1/2 moa (when I do my part) at 100yds with 27.5 CFE 223, REM 7.5BR primers, COAL 2.825 (using Hornady comparator). This is my favorite load/bullet combination for Coyote hunting with the 223.
I have an 18" Rock River Varminter AR and I shoot Hornady's max load of 26.2gr 8208. It will shoot dime size groups at 100 when I do my part. This is the load I also hit a P-dog at 500 with.
I have had decent luck in my rem700 1:12 twist and 53 vmax at 24.5 grs of benchmark, cci400, 2.25 col, hornady brass. The 53 gr smk flat bases ended up being more accurate for target shooting however.
I shoot 25.5 gn of aa2230 with the 53gn v-max in all my 9 twist AR's, strictly for hog and varmint. A devastating load. Haven't ran it over the croon yet.
If your going to try this powder start 10% lower and work up. 2230 is a pretty fast powder.
