Hey so I recently put together a new AR and decided to go with Wilson combat for the barrel and I’ve been trying to find a load it likes and it’s been a real headache I’ve tried a whole bunch of different powders and bullets only thing that kinda shot was 2520 with 29.3 grains of powder and hornady 120gr ELDM I’ve literally checked the rifle up and down starting to think it’s the barrel any advice

120 Sierra Match King, 28.0 8208, CCI 41 or 205M primer.
123 Sierra Match King, 27.2 AR Comp, CCI 41 or 205M primer. This is becoming my ‘go to’ load in several Grendel’s, including a 20” Wilson Recon Tactical barrel.
Took about 50 rounds to condition barrel when new, but is regularly under 1” and shooting .7-.8 the more I shoot it. Don’t give up just yet-I’ve been quite impressed with mine.

I’ve only had the chance to shoot hornady eld with mine. Not had the results I’ve been hoping for. Maybe I need to try Sierra or nosler. I’m shooting mine out of a criterion so if anyone has any experience with theirs let me know what bullet worked best

Thanks what’s your coal that you use and I usually run white oak armory barrels and I’ve worked up multiple loads for 223 that shoot .25 to .50 all day in a 18 inch I know sometimes it takes awhile to find one I just been banging my head off the wall

Every barrel is going to tell what BTO it likes best, and it’s worth the time to determine same. Be certain OAL works in mags you’re using. I’m finding 2.265 works well and easily fits in ASC mags.

I got weird results with the 120 ELDM. It hit the lands in my chamber at 2.223” COAL.
I heard that’s because it was designed for creedmoor chambers, but no way to verify.

I’ve had better results with the 123, and with the 123 and 107 SMK.

Best load has been 107 SMK with 29.0 gr of Benchmark, 205m, 2.260 COAL.

Wilskn Combat will send you a replacement barrel ASAP if you call them. In my experience they replaced a barrel for me that was 4-5 months old. Just happened to mention that I had bought a 6.5 bsrrrl from them that would barely hold 1 moa . Salesman had a return label to me within minutes and the new barrel shot great .

Have you tried any factory ammo through it? I have several of their barrels in different calibers and they are all Shooter’s. If it doesn’t group with some quality factory ammo then, as stated above, contact Wilson Combat and I’m sure they will make it right. Their CS is top notch.

What powder are you using
Kinda an odd one but hodgdon LEVERevolution. I had read people get good results with it and couldn’t find ar comp anywhere
So that’s almost the same thing as cfe223 a lot of people use that with heavier bullets 127 and up from what I’ve read I’ve tested ram shot tac benchmark and 8208 xbr you can try them

I’m running E lander mags I plan on running it in competitions so I’ve been running them at 2.255 so I don’t have to worry about hang ups cuz the bullet is to long

Ok thanks for the head ups I appreciate it I tried multiple factory load during break in and the all where over 1 moa so I was like maybe it’s just a picky barrel

Been load developing with Speer 120gr Gold Dot and W748. Minimal pressure signs and considerable soot on case shoulders seems to be telling me that it wants higher charge weights above the published ones; so far, stopped at 30.0gr W748.

Will cautiously explore that.

Note, Because it's a Winchester Ball Powder, I've been using WSR primers.
